Lakeside Elementary October 17-October 21, 2016
Reading/Language Arts
Reading: We will continue to practice "holding our thinking" while reading by visualizing and making predictions. We will, as always, continue to ask questions and make connections as we read independently.
Each learner must have a book in their possession for independent reading.
Writing: We will continue to work on personal narratives. We have worked on revising to add vivid verbs, amazing adjectives, and meaningful transition words.
Spelling/Word work: Adding -s and -es to words! Study for the test!
Our Overarching Transfer Goals for the year
The learners will independently use their learning to…
Communicate effectively through various means for a variety of purposes and audiences
Comprehend, evaluate, and critically analyze diverse texts for a variety of purposes
Engage in meaningful discourse that respects diverse viewpoint, ideas, and beliefs
Math
This week in math
We are finishing our unit on personal finance. The unit focuses on LOTS of vocabulary including:
Fixed and variable expenses
Calculating a profit
Savings
Allowance
Financial Institutions
- We will be finishing a project this week where learners must come up with a proposed weekly allowance in which they will decide how much to allocate for spending, saving, and sharing.
We are starting our unit on data analysis.
Represent data with whole numbers using a frequency table, a dot plot, and a stem and leaf plot
Solve problems with whole numbers and decimals
Math Olympiad team members HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONTACTED. If parents did not receive an email, that means their learner is not on the team this year.
Science
The learners will independently use their learning to safely and ethically collect, analyze, and evaluate appropriate data. Earth's natural resources is our next topic. Learners will explore these resources and why it is important to conserve them.
