A Peek at the Week

Ζήτω η Ελλάδα!

Congratulations to all of our students for their enthusiastic performance in our annual Greek Independence Day Program! All of our students from preschool - 5th grade sang a song and/or recited poems honoring our Hellenic heritage. Children came to school dressed in their ethnic costumes eagerly awaiting to perform. It was a very exciting night full of joy and fellowship.

Lent Begins

On Monday, we attended church for the beginning of Lent. Father Andrew explained the significance of Lent also known as Clean Moday. Father Andrew explained, Orthodox Lent is a time for fasting and self-evaluation. It is also a time to help those in need and a time for prayer. Lent is also a time to forgive and improve ones character. Καλή Σαρακοστή!

Classroom Visits

Pre-kindergarten visits Kindergarten

To prepare our students for the upcoming school year, each class will visit their upcoming classroom. This week, Mrs. Staci's pre-K class went to visit our kindergarten classroom. The students took part in Daily 5 rotations. All students introduced each other and then were paired off into groups. Students read to each other, searched for sight words, and worked on the computer during their rotations. This was such a priceless moment!

1st grade visit to 2nd/3rd grade

Our 1st grade students had the opportunity to visit our 2nd/3rd grade classroom. They got a glimpse as to how much fun they will have in 2nd grade. The 2nd/3rd grade students showed the first graders how to create a Google doc, name it, share it, and made an acrostic poem. I know our 1st graders can't wait for the upcoming school year.

2nd/3rd grades visit 4th/5th grades

It is super exciting to be a 4th/5th grader at PCA. Our 4th/5th graders have lockers and a store in their classroom. To reward their positive behavior, 4th/5th grade students receive play money to use for shopping every Friday. The store has pencils, notepads, cards, candy, and many more items for sale. Our 2nd/3rd grade students had a wonderful opportunity to go shopping! They also got to see the amazing 3-D models the 4th/5th grade students created based on the novel they have been reading.

Pre-K Excitement

Our Pre-Kindergarten classes had a very exciting week! I always say that it is so much fun to be a 4 year old at PCA. Our wonderful pre-k teachers have created so many engaging hands-on experiences for your children. This week, the pre-k students are learning all about the weather. The pre-k students took part in an exciting science experiment. With shaving cream, water, and food coloring, the students made their own rain storms. Following the experiment, students did sensory play with the shaving cream. Although this was a bit messy, it was definitely worth it!

Our Pre-K students also had a visit from a Leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. The Leprechaun made a bit of a mess in all the pre-k classrooms. He knocked over tables and chairs, left hand prints everyone, and left a trail of gold coins. Students were so excited to share the news to everyone. I overheard them talking about this all day long.
