Attendance
As we progress through the school year, please continue to remember the importance of school attendance and arriving to school on time. In addition, children who arrive late to school miss the important groundwork that is laid by teachers at the beginning of the day.
The instruction and learning that occur on a daily basis in the classroom is our central mission. Parents who make regular school attendance and punctuality a high priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, which is an important lesson for a successful life.
As we work to increase Collins Intermediate’s daily attendance – please continue to support your child’s educational process by limiting the amount of school missed except for illness. Collins Intermediate daily goal is 98.5%.
First Grading Period
Hours of Missed Instruction (Early Checkout) as of August 30th = 661 Hours
Progress Reports
Collins will now send home all progress reports electronically through your Parent Access Account (PAC). Please use the following link to log in to PAC https://pac.conroeisd.net/
An email was sent to parents on Friday 9-13-19 as a helpful reminder to parents that progress reports were available to view. The email incorrectly stated that paper copies would be going home. Parent Access will be the only delivery method for those families with a PAC account.
Thank You
Are you getting texts from Collins?
Nell Kendall, Nurse
Please remember, if your child needs medication at school, please do not send that medication with your student. School policy states the parents must drop off medications and fill out a permission form. THIS INCLUDES COUGH DROPS.
We have started vision and hearing screenings for all 5th graders. If your child passes, we do not send out a notification, however, if he/she fails vision or hearing, we retest in a couple of weeks. If he/she fails again, we will send home a notification with your student recommending further evaluation.

- MeetMe: A dating social media app that connects people based on location. Users are encouraged to meet in person.
- WhatsApp: A messaging app that allows texts, video calls, photo sharing and voicemails with users worldwide.
- Bumble: Similar to Tinder, but requires women to make the first contact. Law enforcement says kids and teens can create fake accounts and falsify their age.
- Live.Me: A live-streaming app that uses geolocation to share videos. The sheriff's office said users can earn "coins" to "pay" minors for photos.
- Ask.FM: The sheriff's office said this app lets users ask anonymous questions and is known for cyberbullying.
- Grindr: A dating app geared toward the LGBTQ community based on user location.
- TikTok: A new app popular with kids lets users create and share short videos. Law enforcement said the app has "very limited privacy controls" and users can be exposed to cyberbullying and explicit content.
- Snapchat: One of the most popular social media apps in the world, Snapchat lets users take and share photos and videos. The app also lets people see your location.
- Holla: This self-proclaimed "addicting" video chat app lets users meet people in seconds. Law enforcement said users have seen racial slurs and explicit content.
- Calculator+: Police say this is one of several apps that are used to hide photos, videos, files and browser history.
- Skout: A location-based dating app that is supposed to prohibit people under 17 from sharing private photos. However, police say kids can easily create an account with a different age.
- Badoo: A dating and social media app where users can chat and share photos and videos based on location. Police say the app is supposed to be for adults only, but they've seen teens create accounts.
- Kik: Police say kids can bypass traditional text messaging features using this app. Kik "gives users unlimited access to anyone, anywhere, anytime," the sheriff's office said.
- Whisper: An anonymous social network that lets users share secrets with strangers. Police say it also shows users' location so people can meet up.
- Hot or Not: The app lets users rate profiles, check out people in their area and chat with strangers. Police say the goal of the app is to hook up.
Information from the Mr. Barnhart, Assistant Principal
I’d like to provide an update and a quick reminder regarding the status of our attendance at Collins Intermediate. Right now, although our attendance percentages are at an acceptable level, they are a little lower than we’d like to see. Attendance at school is the number 1 predictor of success. We encourage everyone to have your student at school every day! We want to have all students here so we have the best chance to help them be successful. We realize that appointments are necessary and at times it is unavoidable to miss class. However, please be mindful of the impact even a few hours away from class can have on your student. We want all of our Collins Cobras to be as successful as possible, so if there is an issue that we need to be aware of, please contact your child's LC teachers, counselor, or assistant principal so we are aware. Thank you for your help in this important matter.
Orchestra
We are off to a great start in orchestra! All students should have a binder, sheet protectors, dividers, pencil pouch, pencils and orchestra books in class every day so they can participate in class. Every student should be bringing the binder and instrument home to practice daily.
Practice reports are due from students every Tuesday. Please sign into Canvas Canvas to view assignments and important dates.
Cello and bass players have received information about paying the maintenance fee for using the school instruments in class. Thank you making the payment online, and for returning the form for scheduling which day to bring the home instrument to school for tuning. Please check Canvas for additional copies and for the link to make the payment if you have not done so.
Honor Orchestra Begins Friday, Sept. 13
Honor Orchestra is open to all students who have been playing for at least a full year in a school orchestra program that has daily instruction. Students must commit to learning challenging music, and to practicing it at home. Practicing at home is essential to the group’s success. Students must attend rehearsals and come prepared to play in order to stay in Honor Orchestra. Students need to maintain a passing average in their core classes to be in the group. If you are interested in rising to the challenge then please join us at rehearsals on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:40-8:30a.m. The door will be unlocked only for Honor Orchestra students by 7:35a.m. Please use the door to the building that is across from the orchestra room.
Band
We are super excited to get started!!
Please remember, practice records are due every Tuesday. All tests and assignments will be uploaded to our Canvas calendar for you to view. Please make sure your student has a binder, sheet protectors, dividers, pencil pouch (with 2 pencils and a highlighter), and their band book for their specific instrument. “Accent on Achievement”--(book 1 for 5th grade, book 2 for 6th grade)
Students have been doing a fantastic job of taking their instruments home everyday, Let's keep up the great work!!
Private Lessons - Please help your child remember their date and time. This will help us out tremendously with not having to disturb others class.
Choir
Collins Chorale had a wonderful beginning on September 5. I’m looking forward to small group rehearsals on Tuesday, September 10 or Wednesday, September 11. The students have hopefully selected the day that work for each family. It will be important to stay with the selected day as each day will learn different parts of the music. In other words, Tuesday students learn one part and Wednesday learns another.
All rehearsals are important! Our first concert is October 7 and is the feeder concert for College Park. That is only one month to learn a wonderful piece of music.
Look for an email explaining how to join Remind. It is the most effective way that Ms. Brill has to communicate with parents.
Art
Rodeo Art season is here! We are all working away at our western style art using the grid method of artist Chuck Close.
If a student does not yet have their sketchbook please try and pick one up as soon as possible as we work in it every day. These can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or any arts and crafts store.
We are looking forward to a great year in art!
Congratulations to our 6th grade art students Adelyn Whitlow, Emily Newcomb, and Jaylen Brennan who were showcased in the Conroe ISD District Art Show on Saturday September 7th! Their fantastic artwork will be on display at the Conroe ISD central administration building for the 2019-20 school year. We are so proud of our young artists!
