The October Review
October in the KPMS Library!
Check it out at https://soraapp.com/library/masslibma
The library will be collaborating with Lisa McIntyre, a seventh-grade history teacher, and Beth Kelley, the district Instructional Technology Specialist, to create a fun and engaging project that utilizes this wonderful new resource.
Graphic Novels
Jenna Grodzicki, an elementary school librarian based in Connecticut, explains that "...Graphic novels promote literacy in a variety of ways. They attract and motivate kids to read. The same titles can appeal to both reluctant and advanced readers. The illustrations provide struggling readers and ESL students with contextual clues to access the meaning of the written text. Graphic novels can offer students opportunities to read about diverse characters." (“But that’s not a real book!” – Why Your Collections Should Include Graphic Novels, 2017)
I encourage everyone who is doubtful about the literacy potential and value of graphic novels to read the article linked above. If your child likes to read graphic novels, have a conversation with them about what they find appealing.
