PEN Students: C the OPPORTUNITY; B the CHANGE
Fifth & Sixth grade PEN students have been very busy “taking an initiative”. As part of the unit, C the OPPORTUNITY; B the CHANGE, all students have been immersed in making a difference in their local community.
Fifth graders (see above)chose to work toward adding special needs park equipment, making local parks more enjoyable for more children. Students presented to the Borough’s Park and Recreation Committee and the Boro pledged $750.00 towards their “wish list” of equipment. In addition, our fifth grade students have raised $2, 436.00 from a Chipotle and Lee’s Hoagie Dine and Donate, and direct donations from families and businesses. One fifth grader even asked people attending his birthday party to donate to this worthy cause rather than bringing presents!
Sixth graders (see below) chose to tackle hunger by educating younger students on the problem of hunger, organizing a food drive, and volunteering at Manna on Main. They have clearly made an impact!

ABSENT NOTES- DON'T FORGET
The State of Pennsylvania is now monitoring student attendance closely.
As a result of this governance, all absences are documented as unlawful until a note of excuse is received. Additionally, 6 days of unlawful absences now result in a truant case. Once a student is marked a truancy case, the result can be truancy court.
Parents can help prevent against this occurrence by sending in all excuse notes within three days of any absence. The teachers will be sending all notes to the office the morning they are received. Thank you in advance for your help in minimizing any attendance-related challenges.
