Nuts & Bolts
December 3, 2018
We made it!
Phew! We made it through our first week back after Thanksgiving break and have made it to December. Some of our kiddos had a rough transition back to school after a week off and you all handled it beautifully. Only three weeks until winter break!
The month of December seems to be hectic as everyone is stressing to prepare for the holidays. I hope that you carve out moments of quiet and peace in your day to get through. As you know, the holiday season can cause changes in student behavior. Students can be excited, sad, aloof, angry, agitated, tired, happy, and overstimulated. Please remember not to take these changes in behavior personally; the child is having a hard time, not giving you a hard time.
The best thing we can do this month to combat this is provide a consistent, stable environment, honor your schedule, and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations up until the very last hour of school before winter break.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend and I look forward to learning with you this week,
Professional Learning - December 3rd and 10th
Nikki is no longer employed with MMA. We appreciate her contribution to the school and wish her the best moving forward.
Right now we have open and advertised - LE teacher, special education case manager, reading assistant, teaching assistant. If you know any great candidates, please send them our way. People can apply through Teachers-Teachers or email me their resume and cover letter directly.
Lana and I have reviewing resumes and scheduling interviews. We have several scheduled this week.
Special Ed Schedules Tweaked
The students with IEPs on Nikki's caseload have been divvied amongst our other four special education case managers. Those teachers affected have already been notified.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the special education schedule or meeting the needs of your students with IEPs, please talk to Dana and/or René.
Employee Info Sheet - Complete by Friday
If you have not already done so, please complete this form by this Friday, December 7th. Actually, do it right now. Do it; click the link! Thanks!
Arming/Disarming the Alarm
If you come into the building after hours, you must use your personal code and disarm the alarm. It is not acceptable to come in and leave the alarm going off until the police show up.
If you cannot remember your code, please ask Megan. If you need an in-person lesson at the panel, please ask René.
The procedures below are almost identical when arming and disarming the alarm. The only difference would be if you hit arm vs. disarm. Please have all the lobby doors closed before touching the alarm keypad or you will receive an error message that door are open and the alarm cannot be set.
To turn the alarm system on or off, first hit the shield emblem on the home page of the panel.
Then, select and touch arm or disarm, depending if you are turning the alarm on or off.
Enter your four digit individual code by touching the buttons on the keypad. Then, hit CMD (command) to enter.
Scholarship - AMS National Conference in D.C.
Please submit a scholarship application before December 6th to be considered for this opportunity.
Assessment Capable Learners Cohort
Imagine Learning Follow-Up PL
Lower elementary teachers are required to attend. Our professional learnings sessions are required and the timelines are dictated to us from UBSE because we receive money from them to pay for this research-based resource and we are considered in probation status because we have not used the resources provided as much as recommended in previous years.
Thank you for your flexibility and attendance.
If you would like to participate in Secret Santa, there will be a sign-up out in the workroom soon.
MMA Holiday Party White Elephant
If you are attending the holiday party and choose to participate in the white elephant gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift valued around $10-15. The gift can be serious or silly.
I can't wait to celebrate with you all!
