Principal's Message
Spring is here! Don't let the weather fool you - the calendar says so! With spring comes many special events at Elmdale School, and we look forward to bringing back many things that we haven't been able to do for the past few years.
Teachers are busy planning fun and educational Field Trips this May and June. Don't forget to keep up to date with any field trip plans your child's class may be planning. If you're interested in volunteering, please make sure to have your Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check completed at school. These must be completed and the results on file before you can start volunteering. If you're not sure whether or not you have this on file, please contact the school office.
We are planning our Run, Jump, and Throw day for May 26! Stay tuned for more information!
We are bringing back our grade 1-4 Variety Show assemblies! These will take place by grade in late May and early June. Parents of students performing will be welcome to watch the assembly in-person.
Looking ahead to June, we hope to have a grade 4 farewell assembly and event on June 24, and we are exploring the possibility of a family picnic on June 29 over lunch. Stay tuned for more info to come!

Spenst Pizza Fundraiser
Please make arrangements to pick up your pizzas during this time as we do not have space to store frozen pizzas that aren't picked up.
Thank you.
Class Placements for 2022-2023
We will soon be starting the process of creating class lists for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a very involved process and requires us to work closely as a school team to create class lists that are balanced and equitable for all. We take this process very seriously as we try very hard to create a positive learning environment for students.
We consider a variety of criteria when creating class lists, including:
- Achievement (balanced class composition)
Social and behavioural considerations
Male/Female ratio
Group dynamics
Learning styles
Parent input
Given appropriate support at home and at school, it has been our experience that the vast majority of placements are successful. Where a placement is proving to be difficult, we ask that parents and students give it the time required for friendships and classroom community building to develop.
Class placements will be included in your child's June report card. Early information about whether requests have or have not been granted will not be shared prior to June 30, with the exception of students entering Kindergarten. Families of incoming Kindergarten students will be notified of their child's teacher and the days they will attend in mid-June.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child's education.

Wellness Week
Wellness Week at Elmdale - Get in “Shape” for your Mental Health!
We will once again be having Wellness Week at Elmdale from May 2-6. This corresponds with the Canadian Mental Health Awareness Week (https://www.mentalhealthweek.ca). Our students’ total well-being is so important to us and we have planned some activities to promote various elements of wellness. This year’s theme involves a different shape for each day:
Monday - HEART - What’s on your heart? We will focus on identifying our feelings.
Tuesday - DIAMOND - Where are the diamonds in your day? Focus on gratitude and identifying the good things.
Wednesday - SQUARE - Thinking outside the box! Focus on flexible thinking and creative problem solving.
Thursday - STAR - We’re all Stars! Celebrating what makes us each unique and special.
Friday - CIRCLE - We all Belong. Celebrating our diversity and school community.
On Friday please wear Elmdale colours of yellow and blue or an Elmdale shirt!
Looking for Volunteers!
Our PAC is working on plans to start a hot lunch program again this spring. In order to do this we need some volunteers. Volunteers would come to the school from about 11:20 to 12:40 to count money and distribute the pizza. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Stacey at seanandstacey@yahoo.ca
