Summer Reading Celebration
We are a community of readers!
Mrs. Reinert Goes to Nerd Camp!
One of the highlights was keynote speaker Jason Reynolds, author of the Track Series as well as many stand alone titles. His speech was inspiring and motivational. The whole experience made me proud to be part of the education profession and reaffirmed my appreciation of literacy as a vital component of our students' educations.
At our back to school staff meetings in August, I drew one teacher's name from each grade level and they were the recipients of an autographed book (brought from NerdCamp) to add to their classroom collections.
I also plan to share the details of my experience with our students in their library classes throughout the coming year. Mini author studies, book talks, and a rotating Nerd Camp display of pictures and books of the authors/illustrators in attendance will help the students see that the people who create the books they read are people just like them who have worked hard to achieve their dreams!
