Proud to present our students who have passed H. S. Health!
The following students pictured, have all finished their H. S. Health class already. It is with great pleasure that I present them to you, and I am extremely proud of each of them! As you may already know, the health class is comprehensive and multilayered. So, anytime students finish the course we make sure they are recognized during our morning announcements. Congratulations to from Left to Right: Marco De La Rosa, James McKinney, Adasena Hughes, Jayanna Gomez, Brandi Cox, and Angelito Masterson (not Pictured). You all represent Davis Middle School well!
What a day at the College Fair!
On the 29th of October, we took 30 or so students to the TACRAO College Fair at the Alamo Stadium Convocation Center. There were close to 100 colleges present, who had representatives there to pass out literature and answer questions. The students really loved it even though there weren’t any other Middle School present to my knowledge. Most of the attendees there, were from high school or Early College campuses. The exposure they received will serve them well in the future!
Proud to present our Student of The Month!
It isn’t always the case whereby you meet a student for the first time, and the experiences with that student only gets better over time! Our student of the month at S. J. Davis Middle School, is Ms. Jayanna M. G., who has really continued to touch and amaze me with her person hood! At Davis MS, our principal, Ms. Dixon, opened up the MSP program to any student who Met or Mastered their 7th Grade STAAR Reading exam. Although these students are on grade level, they have been offered the opportunity to start accumulating high school credits during their 8th grade year. One of the reasons she was chosen Student Of The Month, is she was the first to complete her H.S. Health credit at our institution. Jayanna made all A’s at the nine-week reporting period, and says that she’s proud of herself because she knows she is ahead of the game so to speak. Her long-term goal, is to become an MD, and specialize as a pediatrician. She is currently in 9th grade Algebra, and says she really had a great time at the recent College Fair her and 30 other Davis students attended at Alamo Stadium Convocation Center. Her easy-going personality manifests in the fact that she loves comedies, and all genres of music. As the person who is privileged to work with her, all I can say is “you really really make me proud young lady.”
The latest at Davis regarding our Bridge to Promotion program.
With regards to the latest Bridge to Promotion program at our school; I am happy to say we are moving in the right direction. The students whom I am most concerned about, would be those current seventh graders who are trying to bridge to the eighth grade at the end of the first semester. It is an awful lot of work to complete the 8th grade Staar modules in both reading and math while maintaining good status in their current seventh grade classes. If all goes well, we can hopefully permanently place four to seven current seventh graders into the eighth grade at the beginning of the second semester. Pray for us!
Future field trips at S. J. Davis Middle School 2019-2020!
I am really proud to announce that we have several field trips that we will be taking our Cougars on! On the 14th of November, we will take 39 students to the UTSA Museum of Texan Cultures. This trip will include an indoor guided tour, as well as an outdoor guided tour where students will see firsthand how people lived and dressed during certain periods of Texas history. We’ll finish the day there having lunch outdoors where the students will have time to enjoy the outdoor facilities. Our next trip will be on 12/13/19, and we’ll be going to the Natural Bridge Caverns, where students will experience a guided tour, and learn how to identify cave formations, and the process that produces them. We will descend upon the AMC Rivercenter IMAX theatre, on the 28th of February, to see a showing of The Price of Freedom, which chronicles the battle of the Alamo from various perspectives. March 5, 2019, will be another great field trip to the Texas State Capitol, and then to the campus of the Longhorns of the University of Texas, Austin. We will have guided tours of both places, and the students and myself are really looking forward to it. Recently, we were awarded a grant from the San Antonio Zoo, that will allow us to take 39 students on a trip to see all the zoo has to offer. I haven’t decided on a date, but it has to happen before the 25th of March 2020. Lastly, I am still waiting on the San Antonio College Scoobee Center to inform us if we have been rewarded a grant to take a trip there as well. All in all, I am really looking forward to the opportunity to involve these students in an educational process based in exposure to things they’ve not yet experienced!
