Counselor's Corner
Hello! My name is Jennifer D'Amico, and I am the school counselor here at OSCS. I love my job as a school counselor! This year marks my 15th year working in the field of education and I still get just as excited at the thought of a new school year as I did on the first year. I am happy to support your child with any/all social and emotional needs that come up during this school year. Just to name a few, sometimes students need my reassurance to get through a challenging academic task, other times students seek me out to help them solve a problem with their peers, or sometimes students need my help feeling a little less anxious about challenges that come up at school. I am also always ready to guide students when a crisis arises, such as the loss or illness of a loved one. Please know that whatever your child needs, my "door" (whether virtual learning or face to face learning) is always open to you and to them.
In addition to providing individual counseling to students, I am also excited to be teaching and facilitating Social Emotional Learning opportunities within the classroom environment for all students. All students in grades K-7 will be receiving lessons on important social emotional skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. I have carefully chosen curriculum that will be appropriate at each grade level to enhance your students' "soft skills;" skills that are just as essential to leading a happy, fulfilling, and successful life as the academic content they learn each day.
Please feel free to reach out to me Monday-Friday 7-4:00 at the contact information below:

I will respond to you within 2 business days of your contact with me. I look forward to working with you and our school to help our students grow!

Behavior Procedures
The same behavior standards that are applicable in school also apply to virtual schooling. OSCS standards of behavior are required during virtual learning and in all interactions between teachers and peers. Bad language and negative/disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action. Students that are disruptive or fail to comply with the OSCS Code of Conduct may be removed from Zoom meetings at the teacher's discretion and are subject to disciplinary action. Electronic communications between students or between student and teacher are monitored and subject to disciplinary action if in violation of the OSCS Code of Conduct. Any student that receives a discipline referral will be required to meet via Zoom with the Dean. All discipline referrals will be recorded in the students file.
The OSCS Code of Conduct can be located on our website at:

*Zoom meetings can apply to any online platform that teachers use to instruct and/or meet with students.
Attendance & Procedures
K-5 Student attendance will be tracked twice daily through Zoom check-ins, morning and afternoon. Middle school students will be required to check in for each subject area during scheduled times throughout the day. District attendance and truancy policies are still applicable to virtual learning. Students who do not check in for the morning will be considered tardy, and students who do not check in for the afternoon will be considered early dismissal. Students must be visible and active through Zoom meetings to be considered present i.e., cameras and mic on, sitting upright, awake and alert, interacting with teachers and other students, and engaged in learning. Though strongly encouraged, school uniforms are not required while attending virtual school. However, please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately during Zoom meetings with the teacher and his/her peers. Failure to dress appropriately will result in the teacher dismissing a student from the Zoom meeting to protect the learning environment.
Please forward any doctor’s notes to the attendance secretary through e-mail at: jessica.gonzalez@osceolascience.org.
