173 Instructional Days
This has been an UNBELIEVABLE week! So many smiles, so many compliments, so many happy students!
I am in awe of every one of you and so proud of the week have accomplished! Get plenty of rest this weekend to begin another awesome week.
Couple of reminders:
1. Here is MSS's plan for Monday, August 21st!
Between the hours of 11:00 to 3:00 no one will be permitted to go outside.
We WILL NOT have extra recess on Monday (that includes am and pm). That will be an extra 20 minutes you can do some fun activities on the following site from NASA to discuss the solar eclipse.
Every class is able to livestream the event from the NASA website. I encourage you not to wait until the last minute on this one.

Essential classes in the activity building will be held in the main building. Essential teachers will need to go to the scheduled classroom for essentials on Monday. P.E. will be in the KIVA. We will not be traveling to the activity building at all Monday.
* Library/Tech - Escort/pick up students to classes in building as usual.
* P.E./Art/Music - we will be coming to your classroom in the building during regularly scheduled essential times. It is not physically possible for us to be at two different teams at the exact same time so please be patient. Please keep watch of time and return to your team promptly at end of plan so we can boogie on down to the next team.
*Team 6-2 - The peak of solar eclipse will happen during your essential time. We will be happy to allow students to watch if you will go ahead and have live stream pulled up on your projector. I foresee tech difficulties trying to get our Thinkpads to communicate with the apple TV's in your classrooms.
I know this is not the ideal situation for your planning time or for our educational time. However, we will all do whatever it takes to keep our students' vision safe.
Recess will be in the classrooms as well. Students will be able to go to the cafeteria for lunch but we will have them return to the classroom for inside recess. Duty paras will need to split up and monitor the team's classrooms.
VERY IMPORTANT: Classes that will be viewing the eclipse directly, (using the glasses the teams have purchased) every student participating MUST have a signed permission slip on file. One teacher will need to stay in the classroom with the students who CAN NOT participate. Permission slips need to be returned to teachers by Monday. The office will not call parents for verbal permission to view the solar eclipse.
Parents will have the opportunity to check students out at 12:00 to view the solar eclipse under their supervision without penalty. Absences will not count against them.
Our next solar eclipse will be on April 8, 2024. Unfortunately, that's also on a Monday! I plan on being off work that day.
2. If you would like the custodial staff to sweep and mop your classroom, chairs must be stacked. Custodial staff is not required to stack chairs in the corner or on top of tables. Please have students stack chairs before leaving for the day.
3. Gum...please make a conscious effort to have every student spit out their gum before going to lunch. The gum is being stuck to the trays and making it difficult for them to clean.
4. Wacky Wednesday schedule will be sent out soon. I apologize for the confusion but we have corrected the problem.
5. Be sure lesson plans are posted Monday morning outside your door for viewing.
6. Coming in for lunch....I know that it might be quicker to come in the back door to the cafeteria for lunch but students are having a difficult time merging into the lines to pick up trays. All classes need to enter the cafeteria using the hallway doors.
7. CLUB survey will come out this weekend. Be sure to complete by Tuesday.
Love you,
Casey Hanna
