Standardized Testing Season is Approaching

Besides bringing us blooming flowers, Spring traditionally brings us into standardized testing season. There is a lot of information out in the media about what is expected of schools and districts so I wanted to clarify. MDUSD will be participating in the CAASPP assessments. These have been reduced from previous years but still contain the core elements: English Language Arts and Math, as well as Science for our 8th grade students.

Statewide summative assessments are required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to help provide consistent measures of student progress. These assessments are essential components of an equitable, valid, and balanced assessment system. They help provide actionable data for informing teaching and learning, as well as placement in programs and classes. All results will be publicly shared (with no student identifiable information) as well as your individual scores will be available in Aeries/Homelink.

Below you will find pertinent information and processes for you to access what is needed for your child. In addition, you will find the CAASPP Testing Schedules in May. The following is necessary:

  • Your student needs to know their SSID (A Statewide Student Identifier (SSID) is a unique, non-personally-identifiable number linked to a given individual student within the California public K–12 educational system.) This number MUST be secure so it cannot be emailed to you but you will find how to access it below. (see below)
  • A computer (PC, Apple, or MDUSD Chromebook) with a camera and microphone. Students must be on camera when the teacher is monitoring the sessions.
  • A secure browser must be downloaded ahead of time. (see info and video below)

When you read information on these assessments and it references session ID numbers or field, it will be provided by the teacher at the testing session.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Secure Browser for CAASPP

To support families in downloading the secure browser we will have a few options available. The first option is to watch the video that is available in both English and Spanish (created by CDE/ETS). There is a video for Windows and one for Macs.

Updated version of Chrome

It is important that your device has Chrome version 85 or above. This can be checked at the start-up page or "alt-V". If you have continually been using your device this update happens automatically.
