Mr. Garner, Assistant Principal
Principal's Message
Dear Bernal Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to February! We here at Bernal are plugging along and are grateful to have your students in our classrooms each and every day. On Monday, January 28, teachers participated in wonderful day of professional development. The day was kicked off by a special keynote speaker, Dr. Francisco Jiménez. Dr. Jiménez is an award winning author and Professor Emeritus at Santa Clara University. He presented the transformative power of education, the important role teachers play in students' lives, and the high regard and respect he and the greater community has for teachers. Following the guest speaker, teachers and staff attended several wonderful trainings throughout the day. Topics included but were not limited to: Using assessment data to guide teaching; How to increase family engagement with schools; Increasing students’ use of academic vocabulary and academic language, and many more topics. It was a great day and teachers learned many strategies that will add to their already strong backgrounds in teaching and learning.
On Friday, February 8th we will hold our Valentine’s dance. Tickets may be purchased in the Bernal front office at break and lunch for $5 or 25 Bronco Bucks. Also, Bernal Home School Association will be working concessions at the dance. They will sell Pizza, chips, and soda. HSA is in need of parent volunteers to set up, serve, and tear down and to provide concession items i.e. chips, soda. Please see the sign up to see how you can help. Bernal will host our next Super Saturday Academy Session on Saturday, February 9th from 8:15-12:30 pm. Attending the Super Saturday will allow students to make up one absence from this school year. Permission slips were send home January 29th. For this session, students will get to participate in a hands-on COOKING COMPETITION in the format of the show "Nailed It!"! This was a great success at our November session and we're excited to bring it back again! You won't want to miss out on this fun day! Permission slips are due February 4th and be sure to have students attend the full session so they can:
· Earn 10 Bronco Bucks!
· Be entered into a raffle to earn a pizza party for them and 5 friends!
· Earn an In-n-Out certificate!
· Be entered into a raffle to win a mile pass for P.E.!
Please email Allison Crawford at acrawford@ogsd.net if you have any questions!
*Permission slips may be turned in late (by Thurs. 2/7), but students will NOT be able to order a lunch if it's turned in late. They will need to bring their own lunch.
As always, take care of yourselves and each other.
