Grand Valley Middle School
September 19th - 22nd
STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES: October 2nd and 3rd
Why This Practice Matters: BUILDING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
When students are asked to play a leadership role in selecting and presenting work to share with their families, they begin to take greater pride in the quality of what they do. A “progress report” becomes not just something given to them, but is actually something students have a hand in creating.

The U-12 Cardinals boys sadly lost their game 4-0 on Saturday, But we won’t get down. This game will not ruin their day. There is always next time.
Saturday was the second win for the U-15 girl's soccer team. The first half we let our guard down again and let the opponents get 3 goals. Most of the time we had the ball on their side, but overshot the ball or kicked too wide. The defense battled trying not to let them get by. Kayla stopped many goal attempts the first half. Even though, the opponents crowd said “ These red kids aren’t going to win, we already have 3 goals”, we weren't going to let them stop us. During halftime, the team got a pep talk and came out fighting. The second half came and we were all on our A game. Amazing job to Katie for showing us that we can do it and scored the first goal of the half. Just 3 minutes after that goal Abbey Parker scored making it 2-3. Somewhere in there, Crested Butte got a goal but we came firing back with another goal by Jaycee. Minutes passed and it was like a battlefield. Abbey scored the next goal. We still were determined which led to Jaycee scoring the next goal. The game wasn't over yet. Less than 2 minutes left Emma scored the last goal from 40 yards out. The second half the defense was on fire. Great job to the defense: Grace, Ellie, Caitlin, Peyton, Kaylae, and Raeanna for holding Crested Butte to only one goal the second half. Good job to Ellie for working hard back in the goal and swimming through the mud for us as goalie for the second half. Amazing job to Katie for all her effort, not even the track could stop you. The team could not have won without a positive attitude, defense, teamwork and passing the ball. Let's get another win Saturday on our field.
On Saturday the U-12 team played very well but we still have some areas to improve on. We played for about 50 minutes but unfortunately, soccer is 60 minutes so in the end the final score was 3-1 Steamboat.
Piranhas football played Rifle and won 12-19. It was a great game and the team played well!!
Last weeks race was in Eagle Valley for the Cross Country team. The boys and girls ran together running a two-mile race. Everyone ran hard and finished strong.
Both 7th and 8th volleyball played Riverview at home yesterday. Riverview has a small team, so their 7th and 8th graders played in both games. Our 7th-grade team showed some amazing team volleyball skills demonstrated by their offensive attacks on multiple occasions, but they came up just short of the victory in this match. The 8th-grade team took a bit to get rolling, but once they did, they showed their dominance by taking down the Riverview team in the second game by more than 15 points! Next up for both teams, Glenwood as 7th will be home and 8th away.
Brain Bowl will meet today during lunch.
7th and 8th-grade students who are interested in attending the Washington DC trip there will be a meeting on today, Tuesday, September 19 at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria. There is a cost to attend however, fundraising opportunities are available. It is an amazing trip and well worth attending. If you have questions see Ms. Paine.
