Presentation of the Audit Report
As audit reports are submitted to the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector office, they are uploaded to the agency's website. Past Shawnee Public Schools audit reports are available here. The most current published audit report is linked at the bottom of the homepage of the SPS website and under the website's Quicklinks menu. The audit report for the 2020-2021 FY should be published by the state auditor's office early in the spring semester.
Superintendent's Report
She announced that SHS Senior Lorelei Brem was named first-chair alto saxophone for the 2022 Oklahoma All-State Symphonic Band and that SHS Swimmer Piper McNeil finished 2nd in the C finals of the 100m backstroke and placed 18th overall in this past weekend’s US Open Championship in Greensboro, NC.
Dr. Grace praised the SHS Leadership students who traveled to OSU last week to take donated items for the Cowboys for Veterans: Christmas Bag Program. This program encourages Oklahomans to show appreciation for Senior Veterans by collecting and donating gift bags filled with essential items, clothing, and more. She also thanked the members of the Wolf Spirit Dance Troupe who traveled to all schools last month to perform and teach their fellow students about their cultural traditions. The troupe has students from elementary through high school as members.
Board Reports
Board members Larry Walker and Clif Harden separately praised students for their work during recent Veterans Day programs. Harden specifically thanked the SHS band and choir as well as SHS teacher and veteran Andrew McCune. Harden mentioned the great job Sequoyah Elementary did with their one book, one school program. Walker also commended the SHS Swim Team for their continued successes and the SMS basketball coaches who gave their time to work with all student athletes.
Board Decisions
- all consent docket items;
- updates to several board policies, including AB Nondiscrimination, EB Admissions, Residency, Placement, Transfer, and Withdrawl, and EP Indian Policy and Procedures. The update to the Nondiscrimination policy was due to an address change for the U.S. Office for Civil Rights. The update to the Admissions, Residency, Placement, Transfer, and Withdrawl policy was due to open-transfer legislation that goes into effect in January. The Indian Policy and Procedures policy had received its annual review from the Indian Education Parent Committee meeting;
an addition to the agriculture program in the career tech pathway in the SHS catalog; and
- all personnel items as presented.
The board did not convene in Executive Session, and the meeting ended adjourned at 6:36 p.m.
