We also want to thank the amazing families for all of their support both at home, and at school this year. Your time and donations have helped make this year a success.

An Important Message from Mrs. Vietri
Dear Caln Community, Parents and Guardians,
I would like to begin this letter by expressing my sincere gratitude for having the opportunity to be the Principal at Caln Elementary School. This comes with great difficulty to write, but I want to inform you that I have submitted my resignation from my role as Principal of Caln Elementary School, within the Coatesville Area School District. I have been provided an opportunity to be Principal at an Elementary School that is closer to home.
The decision has been difficult to make as I have built such strong relationships throughout the district and community. I am proud of the growth, progress, and success of our students and school. I am proud to have been provided the opportunity to work in a district so rich in diversity. I know that moving forward the staff will continue to dedicate their time and instructional practice to the meaningful work that has been occurring through data analysis, data informed decisions and instruction and the implementation of MTSS (academic and behavioral components.)
I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with some of the finest teachers, administrators, and staff in the profession. I feel honored to have been able to lead the amazing students at Caln Elementary School. I feel thankful to have built the positive relationships with families through the years. Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of being a life-long learner and Instructional leader. I have and will continue to strive to improve in all areas to become the most effective educational leader.
Through my experiences leading, it is evident that staff and students within Caln Elementary School strive to meet the common goals, vision, and mission in place for academic achievement and student success. Our families have supported these educational endeavors through the years, and we have been able to see the positive impact. I can whole-heartedly say that the dedication of our staff, to the well-being of students, families, staff, and community far exceeds the highest expectations. I am filled with happiness knowing there will be continued success in the future of all our students, families, and faculty.
I sincerely appreciate the experiences and opportunities I have been provided as an employee within Coatesville Area School District. I look forward to continuing to support the students, families, staff and incoming Administration in my transition through the summer. We will continue to persevere and finish this school year strong. The heartbeat of Caln will continue to live through all that we do. The compassion, kindness, and knowledge of our students will continue to extend beyond the walls of the school building and make a lasting impact on those around us.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Vietri, Principal
Summer Reading for Elementary Students
The district is excited to announce several summer reading initiatives including One District, One Book. Each elementary family will be given a copy of The BFG by Ronald Dahl. The book teaches acceptance and compassion, which in addition to a love for reading, are two traits we promote in the Coatesville Area School District.
More details on this initiative will be shared over the next few weeks including a reading schedule, info related to daily trivia questions, as well as special activities including a district-wide outdoor movie night in August.
The summer reading fun doesn’t stop there. The district is challenging every K-8 student to meet their weekly unit target on Lexia at least 6 times over the summer to help maintain and/or improve reading skills. Students that meet this challenge will receive a special reward when they return to school in the fall. For additional information, see the attached flyer.
Finally, the district is sponsoring a social media campaign, #CASDLovesToRead22. The district is asking its students to show off the books that they love all summer long. For additional information, see the attached flyer.
Summer Reading for Students Entering Grade 6:
The district is requiring all students entering grade 6 to complete a required summer reading assignment. Each student is being asked to read one book from their grade-specific list and complete a follow up activity (one-pager). The assignment will be graded.
The reading list aligns with the first thematic unit in 6th grade (Resilience in the Great Depression) to help build background knowledge and support comprehension. Students will be given the summer reading assignment in class during the week of 5/23. E-book and/or audio versions of several of the texts will be available for free via Mackin Library.
A hard copy of the assignment will be given to each student and will be posted to the district website (see Educational Services tab).
Caln Reading Corner
Like any skill, reading and writing improve with practice. Students need to understand the importance of reading and writing in our everyday lives. In this video below, Jonathan shares ways kids could write letters as a way to foster community, as well as a love for writing.
