A Walk to Remember

“You have to promise you won't fall in love with me.”

Landon Carter tells a story of when he was back in high school...

Landon is 17 years old and is a senior at Beaufort High School. He is also a part of the Christmas play at the Southern Baptist Church. He is doubted by Reverend Sullivan due to the Carter wealth. In the long past, the Carter family would prey on poor people. Reverend Sullivan being one of their past employees. The hatred towards the family still resides deep down inside of Sullivan. His daughter, Jamie Sullivan is highly judged by her school mates due to her Christianity devotion, her appearance and her attitude to help others in need.

Landon has known Jamie all of his school life but has never considered to figure out the real her, because of Jamie's semblance.

Early on in the school year, Landon was voted for student body president. In result, he is forcefully made to go to homecoming. Afraid of not having a date, Landon asks Jamie to go with him. The day of the homecoming dance, Landon is extremely surprised: Jamie looks astonishingly pretty, which is different to see in Landon's eyes. The homecoming couple shockingly get along very well.

Later, when Jamie is assigned to be the angel in the Christmas play, she asks Landon to be the father, he agrees to do so. Along the course of a couple weeks, they spend a lot of their time rehearsing with each other. The night of the play, Landon is once again surprised to see Jamie: She looks beautiful during the play, wearing her white dress and her hair down with a bit of makeup. He can't believe himself for finally seeing the Reverend's daughter in this manner. He feels something for her.

The two begin dating after Christmas dinner with the Carter family. Although many people disagreed with their relationship status, they both devoted themselves to each other.

The day Landon tells Jamie he loves her, she tells him the unfortunate news she's been keeping from him all along. She only has a couple months to live due to her rare form of Leukemia. Obviously, Landon is devastated but soon understands that he has to face his fears and sadness.

He prays for a miracle.

Soon after, he asks Jamie to marry him. She agrees, even knowing she is ill. Slowly walking down the isle, "A Walk to Remember".

In the end, back to "present time", Landon says he believes in miracles.

Nicholas Sparks never tells the readers what happens to Jamie afterwards. So the audience is left to wonder: Did she survive or pass away?

“It was, I remembered thinking, the most difficult walk anyone ever had to make. In every way, a walk to remember.”

"Love is like the wind, you can't see it but you can feel it."

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks, is so good that I would highly recommend others to read. The book makes you think of how meeting someone could completely change you for the better. Landon was a troublemaker and was lightened by Jamie to improve himself. Also, it shows readers to never take someone for granted.
