Springtime at MSN
Among the challenges we face is testing. We are working on a plan for statewide testing to be delivered equitably for all 3rd-5th grade students. Our staff have received valuable training and will received additional guidance from the state.
Another challenge is to overcome the loss of staff that have not been replaced due to declining enrollment, COVID19 mitigations and budgetary constraints. This is a stressful time for many of us who are worried about class size and staffing for next school year. What will next year even look like? We could use your help to implore the School Board to do what is best for kids. Keep class sizes small and safe.
We continue to send students home due to illness and want to thank all those families who are keeping their children at home when they are not feeling well. Our awesome Midnight Sun community and staff are up for these challenges because we are working together and keeping communication open.
I want to thank you for bringing us your concerns and working together to brainstorm ways to address them. Together we will overcome any challenges that come our way.
Gratefully yours,
Ms. Van

Changes to Curbside Library Check Out
Now that many students are back to in person instruction, our curbside check out needs and procedures have changed.
New Check Out Procedures
1. Place up to 2 books on HOLD through the Destiny Library Catalog.
2. Wait for your confirmation email from Mrs. Fine. Books must be quarantined for 72 hours between check outs. Your email will tell you when they will be available.
3. Come to school to pick up your books. Books may be picked up Monday through Friday after 2:00pm.
4. Your books will be waiting for you on top of the Library Book Return next to the main entrance of the school.
Library Books for In Person Students
At this time, students will not be visiting our school library BUT Mrs. Fine is still working to get library books out to every student. Third grade through fifth grade students will continue to place books on HOLD through our Destiny Library Catalog. Books are delivered to the classroom throughout the day. Students in kindergarten through second grade will receive a “mystery book” selection that will be delivered to their classroom. Books will be checked out for 2 weeks at a time but can be returned early for a new selection. If you would like to search the catalog with your child and help with book selection visit our Destiny Library Catalog. If you need assistance with our catalog please use our Destiny Library Tutorial.
Please contact Mrs. Fine with any questions at jamie.fine@k12northstar.org or 488-0134 x29540
Meals are free for all students through May 2021
The USDA has extended the waiver for FNSBSD to provide breakfast & lunch to all FNSBSD enrolled students for FREE. This includes our charter schools and BEST!
There are some important factors to remember:
Meal pick up at MSN is 9am - 9:30 am by the gym doors off the bus loop.
Orders can be placed online through School Cafe. Students should be present to pick up meals, but if they are not the parent/guardian must have photo ID and S# for each student. If the parent/guardian is not available, they need to call Nutrition Services at 451-1004 to designate another adult.
Free & reduced applications are still being accepted.
