COMPARE AND CONTRAST
BEHAVIOR THERAPY VS COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
BEHAVIOR THERAPY
Your behavior is the result of an experience, not your thoughts or emotions. You are a product of your environment. We can help you!! Behavior therapy can be used to treat a variety of psychological disorders that include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Substance Abuse
- Eating and Weight Disorder
- Pain Management
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY
What you believe influences how YOU act and feel. You can improve your ability to cope by challenging your self-destructive statements and irrational beliefs and turning them into positive experiences. CBT can help with the same psychological disorders as Behavior Therapy in addition to:
- Sleep Disorders
- Panic Attacks
- Obsessive-compulsive Disorders
- Schizophrenia
- Bi-Polar Disorder
TYPES OF TREATMENTS
Operant Conditioning
Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Desensitization
TREATMENT GOALS
Both therapeutic processes involve a commitment from YOU in changing how you think and behave. We are here to help you make better decisions and improve the thinking process through healthy social interactions.
TREATING PROCRASTINATION with CBT
One approach to treating procrastination using CBT is to use SMART goals. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timebound. For those who procrastinate, there may be some underlying emotions that influence you to put off a task that seems overwhelming or insurmountable in favor of an easier task. In using SMART goals, you can make a plan of action in less overwhelming steps. Therapists will help you identify a task and help you with planning and monitoring each step until you have mastered this process. Cognitive Behavior Therapy and a reinforcement would be the best therapeutic approach to procrastination.

TREATING PROCRASTINATION WITH BEHAVIOR THERAPY
Because procrastination may be rewarded unintentionally, behavior therapy alone may not be the best approach unless a reinforcement or punishment is highly effective. The client may fall right back into the unwanted behavior unless he/she is given a method for correcting their own behavior.
