'Credit for Life Fair' comes to MRHS!
On Thursday, October 11 MRHS once again be hosting the Cape Cod Five Credit for Life Fair here at the MRHS Gym. The fair is an interactive simulation that requires students to select a career option and practice managing their personal budgets based upon the projected monthly income of their job choice. Students will visit booths staffed by Cape Cod Five employees and other members of the community as they make financial decisions about what they want, what they need and what they can afford. The Credit for Life Fair was designed to help students gain an understanding of the financial decisions they will have to make when they are on their own, without parents or guardians paying the bills and covering costs of food, clothing, shelter, and entertainment.

Athletics Weekly Summary
October 4th-October 12th
Written by: Caroline Howard
Well Hello, Hello, Hello Shark fans! It seems another week of fall sports has passed us by and I know you are all just dying to hear the results! So, let’s get down to the nitty gritty!
As we travel back in time to Thursday, October 4th, we have Boys Golf facing off against Rising Tide. A very close match, but the Sharks ultimately swam into victory and defeated Rising Tide 94-84. Coach Anderson pointing out strong play by Ian Johnson and Josh Poitras! Nice win boys!
The Sharks had the school day off on Friday, however, these Sharks never seem to want to take a break! Both Boys and Girls Soccer battled off against the competitive Falmouth Academy. After a long bus ride for Girls Soccer to Falmouth, of course the Sharks came out on top! The final score: Sharks 4, Falmouth Academy 1. Way to go girls! Boys Soccer continued the Sharks winning streak and played their match at home in a very physical game. But hey, who wants to push a shark around? The answer… nobody! That’s right, Boys Soccer came out with a win, 1-0 over Falmouth. Nice job guys! Right after Boys Soccer, Field Hockey had a game against Sturgis West. Under the lights, the Sharks shined bright and ended the game with a win, 4-0. That’s how we do it Sharks!
Both Boys and Girls Cross Country had a HUGE win over Rising Tide and Riverview. You would’ve thought lightning had struck with their speed! All eleven runners beat their personal best times. Steven Young led the boys with a time of 17:24, followed by Ryder Robbins, Aidan Melton, Douglas Ulrich, Quinn Schuyler, Sean Owen, Jean Claude Marjollet, Dan Street, James Kiernan and Sam Yuskaitis. The Boys overall finish was a baffling victory over Rising Tide 20-46, and 20-50 over Riverview. As for the gals, Caroline Davock completed the race with a time of 22:05, her personal best. Sophomore Margo Dery followed nineteen seconds after Davock, with a time of 22:25. Following Dery was Francesca Marchesi, Emily Blake, Julia Rioux, Abby Tyldesley, and Maddie Pitts. The final scores showed Monomoy crushed Rising Tide 21-36, and beat Riverview 21-50! An overall outstanding effort by all these runners who should feel very proud. Nice job Cross Country!
On Saturday, Boys Football was cruising all the way over to Nantucket. The Whalers dominated a very physical battle against Monomoy, ultimately leaving the score board reading 53-14. The Sharks however showed a great team effort and held the Whalers for a decent chunk of the game! Nice job boys!
Monday morning started off with the MASBC Golf Tournament at Cranberry Valley Golf Course. A huge shoutout to every foursome that included student athletes, sponsors, players, and volunteers! Without all of you this couldn’t be possible and Monomoy appreciates all of your efforts! It was a great day to be a Shark!
Monday also brought around a tough day for Girls Field Hockey. In a downright fierce battle against the DY Dolphins, both teams put their all on the line. DY led the game 1-0 at halftime, and ultimately took the win with a final score of 4-0. Great effort by Sarah Babb and Nikki Awalt! Nice game Sharks!
Tuesday brought around big wins for the Monomoy Soccer teams! The Girls started us off with a big bang against Rising Tide that resulted in them grabbing a seat for the State Tournament! The final score against Rising Tide was an incredible 4-1! A strong showing by the Sharks hungry offense as well as a strong back line giving the Tide little opportunity to score! Well done ladies! Boys Soccer also played against Rising Tide on Tuesday. The Sharks played a nail biting game, leaving the score at a solid 3-2. The whole ninety minutes the Sharks showed a supportive midfield and defense, working the sidelines to move the ball up to their forwards! Nice win boys! Boys Golf played a tough match against Sturgis East on Tuesday. A great effort by the team, but Sturgis East grasped the win with a score of 85-45. You’ll get them next time guys!
The following day Boys Golf played a match against the other Sturgis, that being Sturgis West. Coach Anderson mentioning this match being “the strongest showing of the year by the Sharks this season”. Sturgis West ultimately came out on top, with a overall score of 116 to Monomoy’s 98. However, the Sharks really proved to be at the top of their golf game for the season! Watch out! That was not the only exciting sports event that night! I am proud to say I was a part of one of the best football games in my time at Monomoy! That’s right! It was the Junior vs. Senior Powderpuff game! Despite the Junior’s best efforts, you cannot keep the Class of 2019 down! The final score of the surprisingly physical game, of which the bruise on my leg can prove, was 35-0! A big Shark shoutout to all of the staff for volunteering and helping us put on a great game!
Mother Nature was not happy as far as Thursday went, bringing on heavy rain and humidity! All games were postponed!
As for tonight, Monomoy Football faces West Bridgewater for their very exciting Homecoming game! Come out right at 6 o’clock and support your Sharks!
As always, I am Caroline Howard and I will be back next week with more reports! Thanks for reading and Go Sharks!
