The OWL Newsletter
Otto Petersen Elementary School
Dear Families,
We are nearing the end of the month, which means that time is flying by! Please pay special attention to the upcoming events and information for the next couple of weeks.
There will be no school on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day.
A link for the Student Learning Survey went out this week. This is an optional, yet important, tool that we use to collaborate with the families of OPE students. It provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to provide learning information about their child so that we can best place and support their growth while attending Otto Petersen.
Fly-Up days are coming up for our 6th graders and the 3rd graders at Grant Watts and Warren. This will provide our outgoing and incoming students an opportunity to see their new schools, meet some of the staff and faculty in the buildings, and get excited for next year!
The last day of school for students is Wednesday, June 15th! This will be a half day of school. As we get closer, specifics as to building dismissal times. Busing will be provided as usual.
During the final month of June, there will NOT be early dismissal on Wednesdays (June 1st and 8th)! The last Wednesday early dismissal will be on Wednesday, May 25th at 1:10pm. I will continue to remind families of this change, but wanted to begin this communication now as we approach June in a few weeks.
Are you interested in being involved, but unsure how you can help? Do you have a skill or talent that could be used to help students and create fun opportunities? Our Otto Petersen Parent Organization (OPPO) is looking for new board members as well as parents/family members who might have an interest in being a part of the OPE team in big or small ways! The current OPPO board members will be hosting an informational night at the Warren Country Inn this Thursday, 5/19 from 7:00-8:00pm. Please come join the group for more information and a time to connect!
Thank you for your continued support—we appreciate your collaboration.
Respectfully,
Jenneca Crocker

Families of returning and new OPE students - 7:00 pm meeting tonight at the Warren Country Inn
The OPPO is traditionally a low-key, fun group of parents responsible for generating funds to support our grade-level field trips, family nights, classroom activities and supplies, and staff appreciation. This year's board decided we would love a chance to meet with those who might be interested in participating next year. We realize you might have questions or concerns about the time commitment of serving as an OPPO board member, but we are here to help! Today, Thursday, May 19th, our board will be informally meeting at Warren Country Inn- we would like to invite YOU to join us and ask questions about what is involved in being a part of OPPO. We hope this will give us a chance to recruit some new board members for next year. Please join us in the lounge area at 7:00 pm tonight.
Here are some topics we will be discussing:
1. What are the responsibilities of each of the board roles (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer)?
2. What skills are needed to fulfill these roles?
3. What is the average time commitment of each of these roles?
4. What types of events are we currently looking at for next year?
5. What types of events/activities have we done in the past that we would like to bring back?
If you have great ideas for activities or fundraisers to support our building, this is a great way to get involved. All are welcome to apply including dads, grandparents, aunts, and uncles...the whole family is invited to join in the fun!
Again, the OPPO greatly appreciates all of your support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our president, Laycee Kinsman, if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to meeting with some of you tonight.
Thank you for your continued support!

For Math and English Language Arts, parents may opt-out by preference. For exemptions for Science, ELPA21, or Extended assessments, they must be based on a disability or religious reason per the Oregon Department of Education and be approved by the District Test Coordinator.
