Sawnee Elementary
December 2019 Newsletter
A Note from Mr. Hershey
Dear Sawnee Families,
Can you believe that it is already December? It seems like the school year just started a few weeks ago. We have so much to be proud of the progress that are students and staff have made since the beginning of the year. One thing that the month of December naturally causes us to reflect on is our goals that we put into place at the beginning of the school year. The focus that we had this year as a staff is "With PURPOSE, on purpose." We put focus on being purposeful with our students as we look to support them throughout the school year (and beyond!) Although we have much work to do, we are certainly proud of all the growth that we have seen so far and are looking forward to the year 2020.
One thing the holiday season brings out of everyone is a giving spirit. I can't thank you enough for being as generous as you have been as we have participated in food drives, turkey carpool, and toy drives in support of those that need assistance. The Sawnee community truly is making a difference and I am so proud to call myself a Sawnee Chief!
Please enjoy the two weeks off during our holiday season. I hope you make many great memories with your family. If there is anything that we can do to support your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you again for all of your continued support. We couldn't do what we do without you as a partner to support your child's education.
Happy Holidays,
Derrick Hershey
Principal

Habit 4 - Think Win, Win
Think Win-Win isn't about being nice, nor is it a quick-fix technique. It is a character-based code for human interaction and collaboration.
Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing--that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it's not fair, and I'm going to make sure you don't get anymore. We all play the game, but how much fun is it really? Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!

GA Parent Survey
We need your help to fill out a survey for Sawnee. The Georgia Parent Survey was developed to measure parent perceptions of school climate at your child’s school. Your opinion is very important to us. Your survey responses are confidential and will be combined with the survey responses of other parents at your child’s school to identify areas in need of improvement. It should only take ten or fifteen minutes to complete the survey. Thank you for your time and participation.
Please click here to access the survey.
