Burbank Bulletin

September 7, 2021

Dear Luther Burbank Families,

I hope that everyone was able to enjoy the weekend and the extra day that the holiday provided. We had a tremendous return to school last week at Luther Burbank. It is SO great to see and hear our teachers and students together as one school community - finally! The hallways have been filled with chatter and laughter. It doesn't get much better than that. Please make sure to take a look at the photos, below, which capture our first week back together.

Our students and staff have done an excellent job, overall, with the transition to the school year. This transition has also included adjusting to our updated COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols. These protocols reflect an overlay of mitigation strategies that will help support our community's health and safety as we enter the fall months. If you have yet to review these updated protocols, you may find them here.

A special thank you to the Lancaster PTO for helping welcome our staff back to school with treats and snacks and for extending this welcome to our front walkways with the incredible positive chalk messages that filled our sidewalks. We received so many compliments on these messages, and we were incredibly happy to respond in thanks with "that's our Lancaster PTO... the best PTO ever!"

As we step fully into September, we look forward to the start of Cross Country and to welcoming our parents and guardians to our Open House next week on Tuesday, September 14th. Extracurricular activities and intramurals will begin soon as well. Please be on the lookout for more information soon to follow.

In partnership,

Laura Friend

School Picture Day!

Please note that this Friday, September 10th, is School Picture Day and that informational packets for purchasing pictures were sent home with students last week. Although all students will need to have their picture taken, purchasing pictures is strictly optional for families.

LBMS Open House, September 14th

All parents/guardians are invited to our annual Open House on Tuesday, September 14th. The purpose of this evening is to provide you with an opportunity to meet our staff and learn important information about our school programs and expectations. Open House will begin at 6:00 PM; a Title I presentation in our Luther Burbank library at 5:30 PM will precede Open House. Since this evening is intended for parents and guardians only, I respectfully request that students do not attend this event. I am hopeful that at least one parent or guardian from each family is able to schedule time to join us for this important opportunity.

Please be aware that masks/face coverings for this event are mandatory for all attendees.

Important Information from SEPAC

The Nashoba SEPAC cordially invites MRE/LBMS parents and guardians to NRHS for an in-person meet-and-greet with Superintendent Downing on Wednesday, September 15th, at 7:00 PM.

SEPAC's monthly business meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 21st, at 7:00 PM. Interested attendees should refer to the SEPAC webpage for more information and a link to Google Meet. That being said, updates to the SEPAC page have begun! So far, a disability awareness calendar and Superstar Certificate of Appreciation have been linked. Interested parents and guardians are encouraged to check back regularly for more information.

High School Football Games, Events, and Supervision

Support for our Nashoba Wolves football team is high and school spirit is strong. This school spirit makes us very proud of Nashoba. Typically, many of our district middle school students attend our home football games to share in this spirit and join the fun. The high school grounds and facility are large and there are many spectators in attendance. The high school has administrative staff and police officers who monitor the bleacher area and area immediately adjacent to the bleachers, but anything outside of the gated area is not actively monitored. We encourage parents/guardians to attend high school events, such as our home football games, with their children for supervision purposes and to help join in on the Wolves spirit.

In the event your child attends an upcoming game or event unaccompanied by an adult, please have a conversation with him/her about safety and the importance of staying within the gated areas during the game. Thank you, in advance, for your timely support with this matter

Nashoba Wolves Spirit Wear

The Nashoba Athletics Booster Club is offering Wolves Gear! The online store will close on Sunday, September 26th at 11:59PM. https://nashobawolves2021.itemorder.com/sale

2021-2022 LBMS Student and Parent Handbook

Students and families are asked to review the 2021-2022 LBMS Student and Handbook. Our LBMS COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols document serve as a complement to the handbook.

LBMS School Council - 2 Positions Available

Parents and community members can become directly involved in the continual improvement of our school by serving on School Council. School Council plays an important role in shaping school policies and programs. We are currently seeking one parent and one community member to serve on School Council for a 2-year term. The Council meets on a monthly basis after school. Time and date will be determined based on member availability and consensus. Please email Mrs. Judy Ursuliak, jursuliak@nrsd.net, by September 7, 2021, if you are interested in serving on this important site-based committee. Mrs. Ursuliak will then share the names of all those interested with the Lancaster PTO.
