What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

This week in language arts we had our spelling test on our rule from last week: /er/. We also took our third CARS Comprehension Test. We are really doing a great job on these tests. I will be sending the book home today in the red folder. Please sign this weeks and last weeks test (we did not send it home over the long weekend) and return on Monday in the red folder. In grammar we learned about present tense verbs. Our story of the week was What Kind of Babysitter and we brainstormed words that describe a good babysitter, read the story together, and then made a WANTED sign for the type of babysitter we would want . Thank you to Alan Golivesky, Ingrid Dunowitz, and Ina Enoch for helping the class type up their teacher interviews on Wednesday. We are looking forward to editing the interviews, picking our fonts and colors, and putting it all together complete with a picture of ourselves with who we interviewed!

In math this week we worked on converting time, elapsed time, calendars, and time lines. Although converting time and elapsed time were concepts that can be challenging at this stage, we wanted to introduce and expose the students to these concepts to help get them ready for next year.

This week in science we learned about our 6th simple machine: wheel and axle. We then did different review activities of all six of the simple machines. We enjoyed finding the hidden simple machines and learning more about them on this website: This is a great website to help them review for their test! Science folders will be going home this weekend with review sheets to start studying for the test. The tutorial for the science test will be next Thursday, February 25 at 3:20-3:50. Please let me know if your child can attend. We will take the test on Friday, February 26. We are also excited about High Touch High Tech coming on Wednesday to lead us in Simple Machine activities!
