Molly Charles will continue discussing outside-the-box ways to keep students engaged while overlapping and spiraling instruction. This session will focus on how to plan using this approach as well as modeling additional strategies.
Growth Mindset - What's Math Got to Do With It?
In our society it seems perfectly acceptable to say “I cannot do math” while nobody would so freely admit to not be able to read. We are not born as math or non-math persons; everyone can learn math. So why are we being labeled one way or the other? This puts a lot of responsibility on us teachers. The PD session gives insight into the mindset philosophy and teaching strategies introduced by Jo Boaler, Professor of Mathematics Education at Stanford University and author of the youcubed.org website, at the NCCTM Leadership Conference in Greensboro on March 27, 2015.
