Getting to Know ~ Sarah McKeown
A wife, crafty lady, lover of travel, and huge Nadas fan!
Hello everyone!
My name is Sarah McKeown. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska with my husband Jeff. We will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary this year. We have one fat cat. His name is Ubert and he is 14 years old. We like to travel, hang out at home, and spend time with our families, neighbors, and friends.
A bit more about me...
I grew up in Cozad, Nebraska. My mother still lives there. My dad lives in Lexington, Nebraska. I did my student teaching in Lexington. This was by far my most diverse teaching experience. Since graduating with my bachelors from UNK back in 2001 I have taught in two schools, both as a special education teacher. I taught at Louisville, Nebraska for 6 years. I taught students from kindergarten to 21 years of age. I have been teaching at Seward, Nebraska for the past 7 years. I taught 2 years in the elementary building working with students with a variety of need levels in kindergarten through 4th grade. I now provide special education services to our non-public school students. For the past 5 years I have driven between 4 buildings on a daily basis to work with my students. This coming school year I will be working in just one building, WHEW! I will be working at St. John Lutheran School working with students from kindergarten through 8th grade. I will start the year with 7 students and more friends to come as the year gets rolling.
Photo Time!
My husband Jeff and I
This is a great picture of Jeff. He's not much on flash photography, so a huge thank you to my Cousin Lori for this one:)
Ubert (aka Piggy, Piglet, Bert, and Fatty)
This is my fat cat Ubert. He keeps me up at night, meows constantly, and has me well trained. I wouldn't trade him for the world.
Jay, Troy, and me at the Iowa State Fair last year.
I love the Iowa State Fair and do my best to meet these boys there every year so we can see The Nadas and eat our weight in deep fried everything!
Educational history...
Masters, I'll take two!
UNK has been my college of choice since 1996. I did my undergrad in Elementary and Special Education. I completed my first masters program in Advance Practitioner in Special Education about 4 ago. I am happy to say that this will be my last class in my second masters program. Yes, you read that right! I will still have my practicum and a final paper to complete, but I can see the end from here! This round I am working on Reading PreK-12. I decided to complete a second maters instead of a doctorate for a few reasons. One was I didn't want to write a dissertation. The second being that it would not have paid me any more to get a doctorate. Sure it would have been fun to have the title, but to be honest the dissertation part scared me to bits! I also have no interest in going into administration. Teaching special education seems to be my calling:)
