2017-18 Annual Report
What a busy year!
2017-18 has been a busy year in the OMS Library. In addition to supporting all of our students and staff with our 1:1 initiative, we taught lessons, collaborated with teachers, ran after school clubs, supported student designers in 3D printing, and even helped some students find good library books!
Time for Check In
On a busy day, the books stack up for check in.
Collaborative Classroom Space

3D Printing and Maker Space
In addition to individual students using our Maker Space before school and during our Maker Monday club, students in several classes were able to participate in 3D printing through collaborative lessons in the Media Center: 7th grade math enrichment, 7th grade Hour of Code, 7th grade and 8th grade Family and Consumer Science classes, and 6th grade CTE classes.
Sunny's pillow
Working before school for more than a week, Sunny (6th grade) cut out and sewed a pillow.
Noah's 3D prints
Noah (6th grade) proudly displayed one of his 3D prints. He designed 3D prints before and after school using Tinkercad.
TurtleArt with Sadie and Laila
During math enrichment, Sadie and Laila (7th grade) used TurtleArt to design a geometric shape which we then printed on the 3D printer.
Learning Commons Space Use
Throughout the year, the library space is used by various classes for group activities and visiting presenters. Scott Reintgan, North Carolina author, visited OMS in the fall and talked to the entire seventh grade. In May, the Bronco team enjoyed a Skype visit from Watt Key after they had read his book Alabama Moon.
Author Scott Reintgan

Author Watt Key
After the Bronco team finished reading Alabama Moon, they were treated to a Skype visit from the author, Watt Key.
Mr. Pawelek and King Tutt
After 7th grade students used the Iditarod in math classes, Mr. Pawelek and his sled dog King Tutt presented about the Iditarod.
6th Grade History Fair
Over the winter and spring, all 6th grade students completed research, wrote an essay, and created a Google Site on a history topic of their choice. In April, we hosted the History Fair in the library. Students used their 1:1 device or a library iPad to scan a QR code which took them to the student created websites.
