2017-18 Annual Report

What a busy year!

2017-18 has been a busy year in the OMS Library. In addition to supporting all of our students and staff with our 1:1 initiative, we taught lessons, collaborated with teachers, ran after school clubs, supported student designers in 3D printing, and even helped some students find good library books!

By the Numbers

  • 9,870 Total Checkouts & 396 Classes for Checkout
  • 106 Classes for Lessons
  • 935 New Books Added to Library Collection
  • 11 Students Earning High School Credit through NCVPS (Math 2, Earth/Environmental Science, Physical Science, World History, Latin I)
  • 210 Groups for Maker Space & 219 Student 3D Print Designs
  • 2 Author Presentations (Scott Reintgan & Watt Key)
  • 3 After School Clubs (Maker Monday, Coding Club, & Gravity Games)

Lessons

106 classes came to the library for lessons throughout the year. Lessons included: website design, genres, science labs, STEM exploration stations, research, file management, digital citizenship, math enrichment, breakouts (math and ESL), and 3D printing.

3D Printing and Maker Space

In addition to individual students using our Maker Space before school and during our Maker Monday club, students in several classes were able to participate in 3D printing through collaborative lessons in the Media Center: 7th grade math enrichment, 7th grade Hour of Code, 7th grade and 8th grade Family and Consumer Science classes, and 6th grade CTE classes.

Learning Commons Space Use

Throughout the year, the library space is used by various classes for group activities and visiting presenters. Scott Reintgan, North Carolina author, visited OMS in the fall and talked to the entire seventh grade. In May, the Bronco team enjoyed a Skype visit from Watt Key after they had read his book Alabama Moon.

After School Clubs

During the 2017-18 year, we hosted three after school clubs: Maker Monday, Coding Club, and Gravity Games. These clubs were open to students in all grades.
