Library/Lab Renovation!
You may have heard whispered rumors, you may have heard shouts of joy, you may have heard nothing, BUT - there IS exciting news from the north end of the building...the Board of Education has approved a remodel of the Library Learning Center! Beginning December 2nd (yes, a mere three weeks away!) the lab and library will be under construction as we create a more student centered space which will allow for better use of the resources we already have and pave the way for future learning with new resources we haven’t even imagined. The lab will see the majority of the construction with cabinets, storage, a permanent green screen and a few other surprises. The library will be rearranged and a new circulation desk will be installed in a different place within the room. There will be some new color added in to create flow between the two spaces and there will be brand new sliding glass doors to allow for use of the whole space as if it were one large room. The hope is for construction to be finished mid-January, which means the library and lab will be closed for all of December and much of January. Vickie and Courtney will continue to teach library and tech classes, but will do so in your classrooms. Unfortunately, there will be no book checkout during this time as the books and library furniture will be packed and stored. We know this is going to be a disruption for us all, but we are confident the benefits of this remodel will far outshine the inconveniences we will all experience over these next weeks. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and support - we can’t wait to unveil the new space in January!
Logistics for Us:
- We expect construction crews as early as December 2nd, so the library will closed as of 11/22.
- All library books will be due on 11/15. Please reach out to Courtney ASAP if you have books that you'd like checked out to you to hang on to for the duration of the project; otherwise ALL of our books will be packed up and inaccessible!
- Library and Tech classes will take place in the classroom for December and January.
- I'm working on a plan to relocate the copier, iPad and Chromebook carts - details TBD!
- I'm working on a plan to figure out the temporary Tech/Library/Spanish offices... we're getting ready to snuggle up!
- Parking lot: the space closest to the library door will be left open for construction pass-through. We will lose one space to a dumpster (likely), but we will have the construction crews park elsewhere to preserve our parking spots as much as possible.
- ... there will be many more details yet to come! If you have a question/concern, reach out to me and I'll add it to the list as we think this through.
- REMEMBER: this may be painful in the short-term, but is THRILLING in the long-term!! Bear with us!
