Silver Gate Elementary

Week of 9/27/21

Hope you had another great week!

It was another great week at Silver Gate. I can't thank you all enough for your support in following the traffic rules. If we all do our part, during drop off and pick up it will go much smoother than in the past. Thank you for your cooperation as this is all for the safety of our students.

For TK and Kinder morning drop off, please stay with your child in the line until you know the teacher or another adult is taking care of your student.

Hope everyone has a great week and keep the positive vibes coming!

Welcome to our staff Skyla Krcmaric! she is our new Mild Mod ED Specialist.

Here is a little background from Skyla: I grew up in a small rural town in Northern Michigan. I continued my education at Grand Valley State University In Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is where I discovered my love for teaching, especially being a special educator. I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary and Special Education in 2019. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. I decided now is the perfect time to move across the country from Michigan to California! I love spending my free time hiking, going to the beach, and staying active which is why San Diego could not be a more perfect place to live!

This week at the Silver Gate library, students got to honor National HIspanic-Latino Heritage month by learning about 2 Spanish painters...Pablo PIcasso and Salvador Dahli and Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. September is also country music month so the kiddos were taught about when country music first became a genre and recorded for the first time as well as the back ground history to the song "Country Roads" by John Denver, Bill Danoff, and Tiffany Nivert. We talked about fall, apples, and guinea pigs!

Garden News!

Grades 1-4 garden just got irrigation, a sunshade, a greenhouse, and some specially chosen plants already in the soil. With the help of your kids and our volunteers, we'll bring the rest of the space to life.

This is fantastic program can only be available to your kids with your help? There is minimal prep required on your part. Easy to teach lessons have been written for all the grades, and you will genuinely enjoy learning and connecting with the kids out in our gardens.

We are looking for at least 2 volunteers per classroom to work with kids in the garden each week. This means 1 hour per work, divided into two 30-minute groups. You can talk with the teacher for your class on a timeslot that is best. Like I said, you don’t have to be a gardener to sign-up, lessons are pre-written, and materials are supplied to make it easier to lead and join-in. We will have a ½ hour orientation to walk-through the layout of the garden and the lessons on Wednesday, October, 6th before school and after school (attend whichever time is more convenient). Then start weekly lessons the next week of October 11th.

Since starting at Silver Gate I had a dream for us to have a strong STEAM program and I am thrilled to see that finally coming together. Rather than have a tech teacher, an art teacher, EcoLab teachers, Makers Space etc we pulled ALL those resources under one umbrella -- STEAM. We now have 3 fabulous STEAM teachers or STEAMigos as they call themselves -- Danielle Bolster (Tk/Kinder and 1st grade), Kirk Mather (2nd grade) and Amy Archer (3rd and 4th grade). They are working together to incorporate ALL elements of STEAM in the STEAM lab weekly and are also including art lessons in B3 monthly that coincide with the STEAM curriculum. We are excited for all that is going on in STEAM here at Silver Gate!

Art To Remember!

We are happy to announce that we will still be participating in our Art to Remember Fundraiser this year, where you can order keepsakes made from your children’s own art project and support our wonderful school with your order. Silver Gate will receive 25 % of the sales and the more participation the more of a percentage we get. It makes great gift for grandparent and other family members.

Our wonderful STEAMigos will be supporting the teachers to create beautiful Art that everyone can use for this wonderful fundraiser. Please keep a look on how to order online. If you have any questions please contact Julia Roller at

There is still space available in the on-site after school programs. Sports, Lego Engineering, Spanish, Musical Theater, Dance, Crafts and more! Sign up for one, or more, of our after school programs. Click HERE for the current schedule then click on the program to view this session's flyer.
