Here's what we are working on...
Reading - This past week, the students learned about how to identify the moral of a fable and how the characters responded to challenges. The students also compared the two stories The Little Red Hen and Manana, Iguana. Next week, we will begin to learn about the characteristics of fairy tales.
Math - This week, we learned about inches, feet, and yards. We also learned how to estimate length. Next week, we will learn about centimeters and meters.
Writing - We began our opinion writing unit based on the article, Should Every Kid Get a Trophy? We learned to find pros and cons in the article to help support our opinion and forming a topic sentence. Next week, we will begin to write our piece by adding supporting details and ideas to our topic sentence.
Science - Today students finished up the science group projects. Next week, we will begin learning about the moon, sun, and seasons. We will be learning about moon phases and we will need 5 packs of Double Stuf Oreos per class. Please contact your child's teacher if you are will to donate towards this.
Grammar - We will learn about shades of meaning such as mad, angry, and furious.
Spelling/Word Study - We will test on Friday, January 22, over the aw/au/ay word pattern. These are the anchor words cause, caught, saw, straw, pay, and stay.
The sight words tested will be number, no, way, could, people, my, than, first, water, been.
