Oh.... How We Continue to Learn and Grow!
As I reflect on the school year this far I am reminded of how much we have accomplished. Thank you all for your wonderful support and dedication! Maite Iturri
2017-2018 so far...
1. All students are being instructed using Readers and Writers Workshop and Bridges Math,
2. All students are being monitored in reading progress using the A-Z assessment & ON Demand Writing Prompts,
3. We ran 7,000 laps in the jog a thon,
4. We donated 16 turkeys from the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa to families,
5. Teachers are receiving excellent professional development in the teaching of reading from Teachers College in NYC and our own EV staff,
5. Plein Air donated $10,000 for art classes and supplies this year,
6. Teachers are working together doing peer to peer observations and talking about instruction in their grade levels,
7. The EV Family Resource Center are serving families with case management, leadership and education. We offer over 20 classes for parents,
8. Children are reading more than ever and want to talk to their friends about the books they are reading,
9. Valley Vibes Orchestra is back! We have a new program & artistic director,
10. After school enrichment classes including: art, dance, athletic club happen every week,
11. Our preschool serves 48 tiny learners preparing them for kindergarten,
12. EV showed its community strength by showing up in the Vintage Festival Parade.. 100 strong,
13. Families attended Back to School Night because they are interested and fully supportive of their children's education,
14. We hosted a pop up store and helped 1000 individuals after the fires,
15. During the October fires we opened as a Resource Center for two days and helped 1200 individuals with food, clothing, masks and water,
16. We have elected new leadership for our PTO and ELAC Boards,
17. PTO provided goodie bags for all the students during Halloween,
18. Redwood Food Bank now offers a Food Pantry at EV on Fridays at 8am,
19. Opera a la Carte performed for the kinders, first and second graders,
20. We received a LIGHT Award that is supporting teacher leadership and professional development,
21. Neubacher Bench was built by the Ammann Family and installed by St. Andrews Church,
22. First Congregational Church labeled hundreds of books for us, painted benches and cleaned the garden,
23. PJ Day was celebrated on Nov. 1,
24. Altimira teachers and admin visited EV for leanring and collaboration,
25. We launched Breakfast and Books for children and parents to read in the morning,
26. Musicians from Tokyo performed for the EV students,
27. Students watched the Solar Eclipse live streamed from Nasa,
28. We gave away hundreds of books at Back to School Night,
29. We served 600 lunches at our Welcome Back to School BBQ,
30. El Verano Preschool received the highest rating, a 5 out of 5, from First Five Council
31. EV has over 200 volunteers on campus, at events and most importantly supporting their children's learning!
