Relinquishing our Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)
I read an article this week on the need for believer's to be willing to forsake all known comfort for the sake of Christ. In the article, Aimee Joseph introduces the story of Columba, a sixth-century Abbott who was tasked to leave Ireland and bring the Gospel to pagans in Scotland. When he arrived he burned his boat so he would not be tempted to leave the task God had assigned him.
As I thought about this story I wondered how often God has given me something to do and while eager to do it, I "kept my options open" just in case I needed to return to what was comfortable. Joseph makes an interesting point in the article. She says, "Whatever their shape or style, any boats that lead us away from following Christ must be burned as often as they’re built. While this sounds overwhelming and almost impossible, remember that the One who asks for a commitment to himself, his Word, and his ways has also fully committed himself to us." God has called each of us to a particular mission for the sake of His kingdom. When we hear clearly from God, we must be willing to burn our boats and rely on God's guidance and provision. I have linked the article below for those who wish to read further. God Bless!!!!!
