Executive Director Report
Welcome Back to School!
MAHS/MASC had a memorable summer. Over 50 students and advisors went on a
road trip to Washington DC and Pittsburgh. Washington DC was a three day pre-
trip for the national convention in Pittsburgh. The students and advisors stayed in a
small boutique (?) hotel close to DC’s metro rail station. In the short time we were
there, the delegates saw all the highlights of our nation’s capitol. Students even
declared themselves one-day members of the Georgetown University community.
At the actual convention, our delegation was led by MAHS/MASC state executive
committee members-Janagan Ramanathan, Meghan Chouanard, and Braden
Bourland. Minnesota delegates enjoyed the sites of Pittsburgh and a great NatStuCo
conference. The highlight was Sue Iverson, Wayzata student council advisor, being
named national student council advisor of the year. As always, the Minnesota
delegation led the conference in excitement and enthusiasm.
Later that summer, a record number of 150 students attended The Academy at Sauk
Rapids/Rice High School and the St. Cloud Holiday Inn. President Dr. Wacker of St.
Cloud University and Nick Ingles, Prior Lake student council advisor were the two
keynote speakers. The delegates understood why “Ingles” was a successful speech
advisor as he gave an inspirational message. The best part of The Academy is the
chance to exchange ideas with schools from every corner of the state. Of course, the
activities back at the hotel and the dance were huge successes.
I am excited about the upcoming year. You are blessed with outstanding leadership
in the student council and honor society executive committees. The conference
coordinators are planning an amazing state conference in the new Sartell High
School. It is an incredible facility. I am looking forward to attending your division
meetings and having the opportunity to listen to your success stories and your
concerns. I would love to see you at The Forum held at beautiful Cragun’s Resort on
November 3 and 4. Information is on our website masc-mahs.org.
If I can help your council or honor society in any way, do not hesitate to call at 763-
232-2501. I enjoy travelling throughout the great state of Minnesota!

Conference Co-Coordinators
Conference Coordinator Sam Brandt Hi! My name is Sam Brandt and I’m a convention co-coordinator this year. When I’m not doing something regarding student council I’m usually volunteering through Big Brothers Big Sisters, Running Track, or tackling piles of homework. As a senior at Sartell High School, I’m crazy excited to be the host school for the state convention this year. It’s going to be an awesome time and we’d love to see as many people there as possible! | Conference Coordinator Sarah Ufearo Hey Everyone!! I am Sarah Ufearo, I’m from Sartell, and I’m your 2019-2020 MASC-MAHS State Co-coordinator. Interesting fact about me is that I have tri-citizenship: I was born in Sligo, Ireland, my parents are from Nigeria, and we became American citizens 3 years ago! A few less-interesting facts about me are that I enjoy reading (highly recommend All the Ugly and Wonderful Things), traveling, and stargazing. | Conference Coordinator Libby Crandall My name is Libby Crandall and I’m from Sartell, MN. I currently am a co-coordinator for this years state convention and the vice president of my high schools student council.
