LHES Community Chronicle: Week of August 29th
Greetings Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to the First Day of School!
Our doors open at 7:30 am and we are so excited to see our Little Lions bright and early Monday morning. By now, you have all received your child's classroom assignment and have hopefully had the opportunity to see their classroom and meet the teacher in person. Each teacher will be reaching out to you throughout the week with more formal introductions to start the new year together.
Please be mindful, the instructional bell rings at 7:45 am and at that time all visitors will be asked to exit the building. The Back to School Community Conversation recording is provided below. It will be helpful to familiarize yourself with our arrival and dismissal procedures.
This newsletter has a lot of important information, and most pieces of information are action items needed for a safe start to the school year. Please ensure your little lion knows;
- how they are getting home each day,
- the name of their teacher, and
- the first and last name of at least one parent.
These small bits of information help tremendously if a child arrives unaccompanied and is not sure of where they should go. We will have several staff members on duty throughout the building to help make sure every child has breakfast and gets to their classroom safe and on time.
Take a look at the welcome letter from our leader, Superintendent Jason Kamras.

Kindergarten & First Grade Bus Rider Safety Information
To assist in identifying Preschool -1st grades pupils, transportation is providing you with the template for the Transportation Passport for students in Preschool -1st grades. Students transported by the school bus will be given tags to wear during the first month of school. The front of the tag lists the student’s name, school, bus number, and grade. The back of the tag lists the student’s emergency contact information. Parents or guardians should notify the school immediately if a student’s tag is lost or damaged.
Last year we have over 175 walkers which required an extensive amount of logistics planning for coverage. Teachers worked in crossing guard capacities in areas that were not safe in order to accomodate parent pick-up requests. This year, our crossing areas will be limited to three areas.
From these locations, parents will be able to walk in the direction of their respective homes. It is imperative that drivers pay attention to crosswalks and students crossing on Hermitage and Laburnum. Please note the flow of traffic slides. As we continue to grow, we must be respectful of our community and not block their driveways or use their side streets for parking. If you are walking a student to a car, then your child is considered a car rider and we ask that you follow those procedures.
NEW INFORMATION ALERT:
We kindly ask that you not come to the doorway entrances to retrieve walkers. For the safety of the students and the staff, students can be retrieved from the designated pick-up locations.
Zone 1: (Front of the School - Bottom Driveway Entrance)
- Adult staff will walk students who live in the front of the school to the end of the school driveway. Parents/caregivers can meet students here and cross under the direction of the staff crossing guard.
Zone 2: (Back of the School - Former Zone 3 & 4 families )
- These students will be escorted of the end of the driveway fence that meets the sidewalk. A staff crossing guard has been added to help with car rider directional traffic. This change was to support walking equity of families.
Zone 3 - (Side of the School - Former Zone 2 & 3 families)
- For equity in walking distance of corner homes, these students will be taken the middle walkway of the school. Parents/caregivers can walk back in the direction of the crossing guard. This relieves some families from having to cross main intersections more than once.
