100th Day of School
Can you believe it? January 31st is our 100th day of school. And, we are so very excited to celebrate with you and your students!
On Thursday, January 30 from 5:30-7 pm, we will host a Math night, all about 100s! We invite you to spend the night with your kiddos, learning all about Math. At each station, you'll learn how to play a fun game, that you can take home and continue to build a love for Math with your child! So, bring the whole family; it will be a great night of Math games!
In addition, in classrooms on Friday, January 31, students will celebrate the day in a variety of ways. Look out for more information in the weekly grade level newsletter!
ADDITION TO CALENDAR: NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7
This will not impact student academic days, as we ARE having school on January 31 (because it is the 100th day of school), even though all other Aurora Public Schools are out.
Community Committee Meeting: February
Join us on Tuesday, February 11 from 5:30-6:30 pm for the next Community Committee meeting! We will discuss PTO vs. PTA and what processes you want to see as a parent, when it comes to hiring. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Welcome New ACS Staff
Menshahat:
I was born and raised in New York City. I started out as an artist in a New York based non-profit mural organization and realized that I really loved teaching. I got my Bachelor's from Hunter College in Childhood Education and my Master's from Brooklyn College in Special Education. I got married in 2015 and my husband and I moved to Colorado in 2016 in order to start a family. We have since had two boys. They are 2 1/2 and 10 months now. We live in Greenwood Village and love to go to the library and explore all wonderful things, free things around us.
Thank you for welcoming me into your community. I am so excited to meet all of you!
Nedra:
Hello, I am Nedra Rudolph-Hall! I am so excited to be joining the staff at Aurora Community School! I have an extensive background in Restorative Justice, Win-Win Discipline Practices and Parent Engagement. I previously worked in Aurora Public Schools as a Family Liaison and Dean at Montview Elementary School for the past 26 years. During my free time, I like to bake and decorate cakes, plan parties and other events. I have also done some Plus Size modeling and Stand-Up Comedy at local Talent Shows! My husband and I own an entertainment business that includes mobile DJ services and a photo booth. I am looking forward to utilizing my skills and becoming a part of the Aurora Community School family!
Please stop and say hi!
Part Time Job: Cafeteria Server
Lunch is a mandatory off time for teachers; it's their time to eat a meal, take care of personal business, etc. We don't ever want to infringe on that time...so we are looking for a parent who might be interested in taking a part time job, as a Cafeteria Server. This person would work, every school day, from 10:45 am - 1 pm.
If you are interested in this role, please reach out to Ashley Williamson (via email: awilliamson@auroracommunityk8.org) for next steps, regarding an interview, pay, etc.
Second Semester Testing
mid-January - end of January: Middle of the Year DIBELS Testing
*All students take DIBELS. This assessment tells us where students are in the progression of becoming strong readers. If you are interested in learning where your student is (or where they've grown to from the beginning of the year), please reach out to the your child's classroom teacher).
end of January - mid February: ACCESS Testing
*ONLY students who take English Language Development courses will take this assessment. This assessment will give us a better idea of where students are in developing their second language (in terms of listening, speaking, writing, and reading).
end of February: Gifted and Talented Testing
* ONLY 2nd grade students or nominated students from other grades will be screened for gifted and talented.
mid April - end of April: CMAS Testing
*ONLY students in 6th grade will take CMAS in both Reading and Math. This is a state mandated exam, which helps us better understand how students are progressing towards mastery of grade level standards.
Building Update
Last week, they finished the drywall throughout the entire building and began putting in the ceiling tiles in each classroom. Once that's completed, they will begin painting and adding the beautiful carpet! The cabinets and shelving are already in, so they can be quickly added to each classroom.
The gym/cafeteria is taking the longest amount of time, but we are working to see if we might get temporary occupancy, which would allow us to move in, even though the gym/cafeteria isn't quite ready.
We are working to set up tours...because we know how anxious you all are getting as well. So, as soon as we can, we will share dates/times for you to come see the new building!
Go to https://smile.amazon.com/, login as you normally would, and type in our school name (Aurora Community School); we will show up as a Charter School in Denver Metro, CO.
Tardy or Absent?
In case of a tardy, please TEXT 720-621-4514 with the student's name, grade level, and the reason for the tardy. No one will respond to this message, but please know it was received.
In case of an absence, please EMAIL info@auroracommunityk8.org; please share the student's name, grade level, date of the absence, and reason for the absence.
