Essential Coaching Practices
This series of modules will describe a set of research-supported literacy coaching practices to guide literacy coaches in their work with teachers. By improving teacher expertise and the quality of core literacy instruction, student literacy achievement increases.
Through this series, coaches will:
- Gain an introductory knowledge of each of the seven essential coaching practices, and
- Have many opportunities to make connections to their daily practice

Introduction and Essential 1
This course, the first in a series of four modules focused on the Essential Coaching Practices in Elementary Literacy, is meant to describe a set of research-supported literacy coaching practices to guide literacy coaches in their work with teachers. It will provide an overview of the Essential Coaching Practices and examine the specialized literacy knowledge and skills needed by an effective literacy coach. Adult Learning and Building Collaborative Relationships
This course is the second in a series of four modules centered on the Essential Coaching Practices in Elementary Literacy, and is meant to describe a set of research-supported literacy coaching practices to guide literacy coaches in their work with teachers. It will focus on adult learning and building collaborative relationships, as outlined in Essential Coaching Practices 2 and 3. This course is available for SCECHs at EduPaths.org.
Coaching Practices
This course is the third in a series of four modules centered on the Essential Coaching Practices in Elementary Literacy, and will describe a coach's effective use of time with teachers and examine several specific coaching practices, as outlined in Essential Coaching Practices 5 and 6. Literacy Leadership
This course is the fourth in a series of four modules centered on the Essential Coaching Practices in Elementary Literacy, and is meant to describe a set of research-supported literacy coaching practices to guide literacy coaches in their work with teachers. It will focus on literacy leadership, as outlined in Essential Coaching Practices 4 and 7. This course is available for SCECHs at EduPaths.org.
