CSCS Parent Smore Update
April 15th, 2020 - Parent Phase II Update Information
An Update Message on Phase II
Hello Panther Parents and Students!
We wanted to give an update mid-week on a couple of important things we are learning in our phase II rollout. Below are a couple of things to note:
- Student Lap Top Camera's (3-6th grade): If you received a lap top Friday for your child, it needs to run a diagnostic update to turn the camera function on so that your child can video conference (If you don't want video, they can still audio conference). Please note that you will have to pull into either school or bus garage parking lot to run the update as you have to be connected to the school's WiFi. The directions on how to run this update are in this newsletter update.
- Technology Help: Over the next couple of days we will be adding a link to the school webpage that allows parents to directly contact the school for tech help. Mr. Anderson will explain this process in more detail this coming Sunday.
- Elementary Software Links: On the school webpage (www.cscsd.org) we have created a new link to the main software/apps the school uses. Just click and then pick the program your child needs!
Next Sunday - April 19th at 5:00pm, Mr. Anderson will be holding another live Zoom parent informational session. During this update he will talk about the most recent updates from NYS, local updates and will be taking questions and feedback from parents regarding our first week of Phase II continuity of education. As was done for our last live update, a link to this session will be sent to parents on the day of the update. We will also be discussing what Phase III could look like if we do not come back to school for a longer period of time. Just click on the link to join.
If you have not yet, please make sure to email Kelly Costa to provide explicit permission for your child to engage in video conferencing: kcosta@cscsd.org. We will be also reaching out to gather this information.
We won't be perfect at all of this at first, but we will grow, learn, and become proficient over time
Go Panthers!
Instructions to update your students HP laptop to enable the camera function
This needs to be done on the school’s network. You will need to park as close as you can to the school to receive a WIFI signal from the access points inside. Any laptop picked up after 4/15/20 will have the update applied to it and you won’t need to do this update.
- As you get close enough to the building your student’s laptop should connect to the schools network.
- Have your student log on and check to see if you are connected to the schools WIFI network called REGIONAL.
- If it doesn’t connect automatically, please restart the laptop.
- After you have checked the connection, give the computer time (2 or 3 minutes) to load applications and files.
- In the lower left of the keyboard, there is a key with the window symbol (4 squares) on it. Tap it.
- Type CMD (doesn’t need to be in caps) and press enter
- A black window should open. You will see a blinking white dash, don’t worry about what is to the left of that …… in front (right) of the blinking white dash you will type the following gpupdate /force there is a space between gpupdate and /force.
- You should now see the words Updating policy…
It will take anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes depending on the signal from the WIFI. When it is done you should see these 2 lines:
Computer Policy update has completed successfully.
User Policy update has completed successfully.
· If you see warnings or failures, it could be that you started the process too quickly, just type it again and it should work.
The final check is the opening of the camera program:
- The easiest way to do this, is again tap the key with the window symbol (4 squares) on it and type camera …… the program should open, and you will see that the camera is working.
This Upcoming Week

As was done for our last live update, a link to this session will be sent to parents on the day of the update. Just click on the link to join.

Resources for Parents
UPDATED-Breakfast and Lunch available daily to all school aged children!
Please download the attached UPDATED flier for times and places. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions. This has been a tremendous help as the District as continued supplying meals for over 150 of our students on a daily basis!
A HUGE Shout-Out to our cafeteria staff as they are more "essential" than ever to help support and take care of our community!
A Closing Thought
We are hopeful that students will be able to come back to school on April and 29th, although this can change as the governor is making decisions at this point in two week increments. Bottom line, is we have to do our best so we can get back to school as soon as possible!!! We miss our kids!
Thank you for your continued cooperation, understanding, flexibility and diligence. It is appreciated more than you may realize.
