Homer High-Lights

Volume 2, Issue 6, January 2014

Message from the Principal

I hope everyone has had a refreshing and energizing winter break. We are ready to start the second semester and are preparing for an event-filled second half of the school year. Basketball, DDF, hockey and cross-country skiing are in full swing.

We are in the process of revamping our Winter Parent Teacher Conferences. We are looking at many ideas to make them more relevant for everyone. We have surveyed parents and have come up with the following ideas.

  • Have a celebration of student work in the evening on Wednesday from 5-8:00 pm
  • Have all teachers available to chat in the commons
  • Exhibit student work
  • Have the band, choir and drama students perform each half hour
  • Provide college information
  • Provide PowerSchool classes for parents
  • Provide Federal Student Aid information
  • Sell soup or chili as a fundraiser

These are just some of the ideas we have come up with. We would still offer traditional parent-teacher conferences during the day on Thursday and by appointment on Friday. We want parents to come and see all the great things our students are doing. Let me know if you have a suggestion or idea. My e-mail is dwaclawski@kpbsd.k12.ak.us .

Remember, my office is always open and I would love to hear what you have to say.
