Swansboro Elementary

Happy Superbowl Sunday!
Thanks for another incredible week at Swansboro Elementary. With Valentine's Day being this weekend, many classes will be exchanging Valentine's Day cards this week. Please make sure that you follow our Covid friendly Valentine's Day protocols. Students may exchange paper Valentines but NO exchanging of food items or candy. You can find a complete list of protocols in our newsletter (below). Tuesday is our Papa John’s Spirit Night from 4:00-8:00pm. Wednesday is our Strategic Planning. This month's meeting will be electronic, so team members can simply check your email. Don't forget that every student should be logging into Teams for their live session Wednesday mornings and all students are invited to attend our live enrichment session that starts at 1 pm each Wednesday.
As always, we ask that if you or anyone in your household have any Covid symptoms, exposure or concerns, please reach out to the school. Each case is unique and will require you to speak with Nurse Sammons or Ms. Highsmith to ensure student safety and adherence to OCS policies. We will be glad to assist you through this process and thank you for your support and understanding.
Technology Use
Valentine's Day protocols:
- Students will be permitted to exchange paper valentines. These valentines MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY FOOD OR CANDY. There are no exceptions to this. Paper valentines may include stickers or like items.
- Students will not be permitted to give treat bags of any type to other students.
- All students will have a brown sandwich bag for their valentines to be placed in. The school will purchase these bags and have them to teachers the week prior, to allow time for students to decorate the bags.
- Bags should be placed on a table or counter and students will go one-at-a-time to put valentines in bags. This will help with social distancing guidelines.
- When they are finished, teacher or teacher assistant should staple the bag closed. The bag should go home in the students' bookbags, to be opened at parents' discretion.
- If parents do not wish for their child to participate, they will need to let their teacher know.
- Due to Covid restrictions, we are not allowing food/craft donations to be brought into the school except through teacher Amazon wish lists.
- Thank you for following these protocols in order to keep our students safe.
- Students are not allowed to take balloons, flowers and large items on the school bus, so it is best to exchange gifts at home verses school.

Note from Nurse Sammons:
If you OR your child has a fever of over 100, a new cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell or you are being quarantined per medical advice or are being Covid tested per medical request PLEASE email the Nurse or call the school. We must clear your child per OCS protocol before they return on the bus or return to in person school. Nurse Sammons email is Mollie.Sammons@onslow.k12.nc.us. For more information, please check out Nurse Sammons' webpage on our school's website.
Covid close contacts
When a student tests positive for Covid-19, we conduct contact tracing and all students that are identified as a close contact (within 6 ft of the positive person for more than 15 minutes) receive a personal phone call from the school nurse or principal to inform the parent that their child has been identified as a close contact and are required to quarantine for 14 days from date of potential exposure. This is in accordance with OCS policy and the Strong Schools NC Public Health Toolkit.
