Irrigation
This is a picture of irrigation in Saudi Arabia
Irrigation is the artificial application of water to assist in the production in crops what this mean is people are digging rivers or streams that are used to help grow plants or crops
While this can be effective, once fresh farmland can pick up the salt from the water and make it unusable land for growing crops
Salinity
Salinity is the saltiness or dissolved content of a body of water or land what this means is how salty an area is. This is one of the negative causes of irrigation as it causes agricultural land to collect salt from water easier than a natural river or stream
Desalination
This picture shows a desalination plant in Saudi arabia. What desalination is is when you take ocean water or any other salt water and take the salt out of it to make the water potable. While this is effective, it still isn't cost effective as these large plants require money to make the building pay workers and get the water brought to the plant
more definitions
Groundwater and reservoir
Groundwater is water held underground in the soil
Reservior is water artificial or natrual that stores water for people to drink or use in another manner
How do these all relate to southwesterm Asia?
These all relate to southwest Asia because these are all ways that people get water or do to water in Southwest Asia for example irrigation systems could be built from groundwater or a reservoir and the ground picks up salt and its salinity goes up, or the salinity of the water made it not potable and to make the water drinkable people sent it to a desalination plant so I could be potable
