We believe in creating a deeper thinking innovative student
Looking back at what we learned
This week the students in kindergarten worked really hard on continuing to launch readers workshop. Many students shared back what they loved about the stories they read and were happy to tell me their stamina for independent reading rose to 6 minutes! In grade 1, I was able to listen to many students read their stories and was there just in time to watch Ava move up a level in reading. The students in grade 2 worked really hard preparing for their Washington Presentation. All of the students had parts and shared their roles on a practice roll out with me. In grade 3, the Mrs. Stimson had the kids digger deeper into the text by asking them to show their thinking to help identify a main idea and share it with other students around them in their group. Not a peep could be heard as they read high interest nonfictional stories. In grade 4, the students used the turn and talk strategy to share their answer about common factors dealing with cake sizes. In grade 5, the students worked on ordering numbers from least to greatest. I was able to steal BJ to help build an educreations that would serve as a nice reminder for students to finish their homework and posted it on our web site. Thanks for your help BJ! In grade 6, the students were getting the ball rolling by showing their thinking by writing down connections, ideas, questions to dig deeper or ah-ha's as they read. Mr. Snell took this to the next level and modeled an exemplary ample of what an answer should look like. Mrs. Shwaub and I entered our second week of teaching the bullying prevention program to the 5th grade. We are all ready seeing some great results. As always RCS students and staff are working so hard to continually build creative and innovative thinkers.
RCS Nurse Mrs. Hall's Health Fair a Huge Success!
This past Tuesday night, after months of preparation, RCS's own Nurse Hall, helped to build a health fair that was one of the most successful Parents Involved in Education nights ever. Hundreds of local residents that send their students to all of the schools into h Athol-Royalston District showed their support for living a healthy lifestyle. The event hosted vendors from school guidance departments, Hannafords, Karate demonstrations, LASIK eye care, Red Cross, SADD, new Athol Library, yoga and Raki, dance competitors and numerous others. As parents and students ventured from room to room they were sure to walk past the giant wall of award winning posters that were displayed for the first time. Great job Mrs. Hall, RCS is proud and honored for you to represent us!
All School Meeting
This week was our monthly all school meeting. Great things always happen when you put the best kids all together in one room. We celebrated the students in grades 5-6 that worked diligently to be able to be recognized for their hard work. At RCS we have very high standards to be able to achieve A's and B's, but over 1/2 our kids were able to accomplish this amazing task. Nice Work. We also celebrated all the students of the month that were nominate by every teacher from their classes. As a special treat, Mrs. Drouin's students shared their magnificent inference writing with the whole school. To begin the ceremony, I like to identity students that exemplify what it means to be a student at RCS. This month 4 5th grade girls put an end to a hurtful situation. "Students will rise to the level of expectation!" and we are so fortunate that when push comes to shove OUR kids do the right thing over and over. Congratulations and thanks for representing our school so well.
