The Martian

By: Andy Weir

Book Report: Hayes Oswald

The book follows Mark Watney, a botanist and mechanical engineer left behind by the rest of his crew after they saw him impaled in a Martian sandstorm during their attempt to leave the planet. Watney survived his injuries and continues to come up with a series of genius and desperate attempts to survive long enough for NASA to rescue him, attempts that involve everything from farming potatoes using water made from rocket fuel to modifying a rover so he can recover a 1997 probe. After countless attempts to escape the Red Planet, and an amazing 18 months of surviving on the planet. Mark and his fellow astronauts form NASA come up with the one genius plan that they hope will get him home safe and sound. Does this plan work or will it end up like some of the other plans that have put a stop in getting Mark back to Earth.

What did you enjoy about the book?

I REALLY enjoyed this book! It had non stop action throughout the entire book and I did not want to put it down. It was fun to try and plan like what you would do in Mark's situations, like knowing what resources he had and then I tried to come up with solutions to get me home if I were him and that was really fun.

Was this book well written, what made it that way?

This book was very well written in my opinion, cause it was just so good! This author tustve been super smart too because he used so many facts and real life things, to actually make me believe that this might be a true story.

Was the ending satisfactory, why or why not?

The ending was very satisfactory and it was jammed pack with action and I could not put the book down. But I don't want to spoil the ending so I'll let you find out on your own.

Why would you recommend this book?

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning about space and science and if you like a good sic-fi book. I'd also recommend this book to anyone who enjoys problem solving, because it was fun to try to just picture trying to help him get home. But this book was one of the best books that I have read and would recommend it to anyone.
