SPECIALS for the Week of January 12- 16th
Happy New Year! It is so good to be back together again. I think all my kiddos grew 2 inches! I have been busy assessing their reading levels this week and am so excited to see the growth they've made! Next week, reading groups will resume.
Our 100th Day of School is next Friday. We are excited to celebrate this milestone and please remember to send in your 100 day collections on Friday.
Next week, a homework packet will come home on Monday and needs to be returned on Friday. We are adding handwriting practice and writing. Reinforcing important skills and developing strong work habits is important for success in school. Thank you for your support.
Report cards came home today. Please sign and return the envelope on Monday. Thank you to those who volunteered to help in our classroom. Look in your child's folder for your schedule. THANK YOU in advance for all your help!
LANGUAGE ARTS
- Building our sight word vocabulary- new words this week: us, will, them, come, his
- Retelling familiar stories and identifying characters, setting, and major events in a story
- Blending letters to make CVC words
- Changing the initial consonant to make new words
- Working on putting uppercase letters at the beginning of a sentence and naming end punctuation.
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text
- Learning to write How-To Stories
- Fluently reading and understanding books ON grade level
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

- Counting objects one to one and telling how many
- Comparing if a group has greater than, less than, or equal to another group

- Decomposing and composing numbers from 11-19
Using math tools- number line, rekenrek, and tens frame to build numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Recognizing coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter and knowing their values
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving

REMINDERS
- Please sign and return report card envelopes.
- Our lost and found is full of jackets, coats, hoodies, shirts, lunchboxes, hats, and other items. You may view these items, which are on display outside of our cafeteria, until January 13th. After that date, they will be donated to a local charity.
- Science Fair Night is Thursday, Jan. 15th. 7:00-8:00 PM in the Craig cafeteria. Please come and join us as our students show off their science fair projects. If your child did not complete a project- come any way to see the great work our Craig Colts have done.!! All students whose projects are in our science fair, will need to take their projects home that night!
- The 100th Day of school is Friday, January 16th. Please send in your 100's day collections on Friday.
- Our Mega Minute celebration is next Friday from 10:10- 10:40 in the Media Center. Parents are welcome to attend.
