How to Decide on a Career Path
Available Employment Opportunities
When you are considering about career choices, it is necessary to think about the job market. Look at what types of jobs are currently in demand (available) and what kind of opportunities are expected to exist in the future. You don't want to spend time preparing for a specific career that you are interested in only to discover later on that your skills are no longer in demand.
Career Assessment Testing
There is a good chance that there are many occupations that you many be well suited for/ that you've never heard of. Consider going through a career assessment test to discover what kind of career is best suited for your skills and qualities. If you're still in high school/ college. your guidance counselor can probably recommend a career assessment test for you.
Tap Into Your Natural Talents
It is important that you know exactly what qualities and skills you have. Each on of us have special talents of our own and it is important that your job accentuate those talents and give you an opportunity to improve upon them. It doesn't mean you wont have to learn anything new because you eventually will have to. But rather than trying to force your self to become something your not, find something that you know you'll be good at.
Think outside the BOX
If you feel that you're not really cut out to be an employee, why not start your own business? Decide what kind of business you want to be involved in and then get the necessary knowledge and develop the skills needed to make it happen. Focus on building a network, and building a solid plan.
Do Some Research
Its a very good idea to do some research on what kind of field you want to go into. You don't want to just quickly choose a career later to realize that isn't what you are suitable for. It will most likely be a waste of your time and you don't want that.
Be Appreciated and Acknowledged
Whatever you choose, make sure you find something where you will be appreciated and acknowledged. As human beings, we all need to feel loved and respected. Without it, we will just be a bunch of miserable people. Why do you think some people hate their jobs? Its because they are doing they don't like doing. So whatever you choose make sure its something you love to do.
Commitment
Make sure you are committed to your decision. It is important to stick to your decision because it'll be a hassle to change your decision. What ever education you did to achieve your career, it will all be a waste of time.
Salary or Finance
The financial aspect of a job is obviously important to everyone. Consider setting up financial goals to help you choose your career. Try looking for a career that will help you become stable withing a year or two of starting it. If you have a career that has a high salary and its in your field of liking then you're a very lucky person :)
Personal Life or Professional Life
You should find out whether you are able to balance your personal life with your professional life or not. A persons private life is just as important as their professional life, if they find complete balance between the two then they can be both successful and happy with their life.
Be Patient
Finding the right career is a process, not an event. It takes time to develop your career, but setting goals and following a plan to achieve them can help you fulfill your career aspirations.
