How did the change impact society at the time?
It impacted the society because it led other to believe men were in control and that it was okay to dishonor the Bible. People could win salvation only by faith in god's gift of forgiveness. The Church taught that faith and "good works" were needed for salvation. All Church teachings should be clearly based on the words of the bible. Both the pope and Church traditions were false authorities. During the reformation people dishonored these beliefs.
How is that change evidenced in today's modern society?
The Reformation has had a lasting impact upon our lives. You may not realize it, but from the economy to politics, to family life. The Reformation led to thought about family. The Reformation’s thought on marriage was largely men ruled. Men were the heads of the family both spiritually and in society. This was less a development of the Reformation as it was a continuation of the view of marriage in contemporary cultural thought. As for Economy,John Calvin’s thought touched upon nearly every contemporary problem. Our thinking on family, economy, working, theology, sex and sexuality, and more are all reflections of the influence of Reformation.
