2014-2015 Differentiation
Joyce Bearden's EPortfolio
April 2015 Differentiation- Make a Travel Brochure
My students were offered the opportunity to differentiate their product by completing a ancient Rome travel brochure instead of 3 traditional webquest assignments. I enjoyed seeing my students' creativity with this project.
March 2015 Differentiation - Translation Cartoon
Students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their reading comprehension and translation skills by completing the alternative cartoon assignment. This gives students a choice in the product of their translation.
February 2015 Differentiation
Students were given the opportunity to change the process of showing mastery with 3rd conjugation verbs. Student could submit a traditional verb conjugation chart for all 6 tenses of the verb OR they could choose to practice using Open University's Interactive Latin tool. Screenshots were submitted of practice along with explanations.
November Differentiation
To help students prepare for the final exam, I am offering review practice quizzes as a review option in addition to the review module under content. Students have unlimited opportunities to practice essential topics that will be covered on the final. I'm hoping many will take advantage of this more interactive review opportunity.
October Discussion Differentiation
In October, I focused on ways to differentiate the discussion board. I pinned authentic Roman passages about the topic for students to investigate what the Romans themselves had to say about Roman slavery. I also pinned a Khan academy video about a famous mosaic depiction of Alexander the Great. Both resources challenged common thoughts/myths about the subjects.
August and September Enrichment Opportunities
At the bottom of my course homepage, I post helpful resources by module. These include help videos, handouts, printable notes, links etc.
August and September Enrichment Extra Credit Opportunities
Students also have multiple opportunities to earn up to +5 on an assessment by completing an additional enrichment activity. See dropbox for examples.
August and September Opportunity to Discover New Technology
Students were encouraged to self assess their learning strengths and weaknesses in the first discussion board and share with me how they learn best as well as collaborate with others who shared similar learning habits.
