Principal's Message
Alcova Families!
Last week we ended our last round of formal conferences for the school year. I hope that you all were able to meet your child's teacher and learn more about their academic and social progress. If you weren't able to visit us, please don't hesitate to call your child's teacher or make an appointment for a visit. Your involvement whether through attendance at meetings, school workshops, supporting homework and/or reviewing the Parent Portal, build an anchor of student success. We love to have you in our building and appreciate your investment in their learning at Alcova.
Also, thank you very much for supporting our spring fundraiser Step It Up! We did not reach our goal; however, the proceeds bring us closer to providing our students with additional playground equipment. Our staff, students and PTA appreciate your support!
It is exciting to see you in our building whether attending meetings, eating lunch with your child or volunteering. We are a neighborhood school and enjoy our families in our building. If you are able to support us by volunteering, please don't hesitate to ask. We could use your help with helping students read, mentoring or assisting in the cafeteria. Those are just some of the ways you can support, so please reach out! Your positive presence can go a long way, so don't hesitate to reach out to us through your child's teacher, Libby Ballew, Parent Center or myself at cortina.harris@gcpsk12.org.
We are also on our way to charging up for our PTA 2020-2021 Executive Board, where we will need to have parents sign up to represent our PTA for the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. We hope that you will take on this rewarding opportunity.

COVID-19 Update for GCPS Families
Gwinnett County Public Schools is working closely with our local and state health partners as we monitor the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). COVID-19 is a respiratory illness with symptoms that include shortness of breath, fever, and cough.
To date, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that there are no confirmed cases in Georgia and the risk of COVID-19 for Georgians is low at this time. While this information is reassuring, we understand that there are concerns about this new virus. Additionally, the recent announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encouraging communities to prepare for the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. has raised new questions.
Gwinnett County Public Schools has been in close contact with our local and state health partners. The school district has a pandemic plan, which is being reviewed to support the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. In the event of an outbreak in our community, we would follow our public health partners’ lead on any quarantines, closures, or other health measures as necessary. Our focus continues to be ensuring the safety of all students and staff, and continuing education with minimal disruption.
