Mountaineer Monthly
October 2021
It's hard to believe, but we are finishing up our fourth week of the new school year. It has been great to welcome all of our remote learners back to the building and also all of our new families. Our students are busy learning their new routines and expectations for the year.
Please join us virtually for an Open House on October 5th & 6th. This is a great time to meet all of your child's teachers and gain a better understanding of the curriculum. Information and zoom links are located below. Individual parent teacher conferences will be scheduled for late November.
In the event that your child needs to quarantine, the district will provide instruction for students synchronously or asynchronously. Only those students who have been placed in quarantine by the school or the Department of Health are eligible for this instruction. What does this mean?
Synchronous Instruction - your child will join the class live for instruction at designated times of the day via Zoom. Work may be assigned for your child to complete independently following the meeting.
Asynchronous Instruction - students will be assigned work through Schoology (Grades 4 & 5) or Seesaw (Grades K-3) to complete. The teacher will connect with your child about their assignments in one of a few ways. These could include in person, Zoom meeting, email message, or phone call.
You child's teacher(s) will be sharing their individual classroom plans for quarantine instruction with you. Technology will be sent home daily with students to ensure that they have access if needed. Please do not hesitate to reach out to them with any questions.
Sincerely,
Tracy Kent, Principal

Hello Berlin CSD Families & Friends!
My name is James Taylor-Shaw (Mr. Shaw) and I am Berlin Elementary’s new Family Liaison & School Counselor!
I personally grew up in and graduated from the Berlin Central School District (‘09) which gave me the skills and tools I needed to pursue higher education. I went on to obtain my Bachelor of Art degree in Sociology from the University at Albany, SUNY and my Master of Science degree in Professional School Counseling from Sage Graduate School.
I look forward to using my education and experiences to help our students and families at Berlin Elementary School achieve their social, emotional, and educational goals. I am excited to get to know all of you and hope to become a valued resource for our community!
