Williamson Weekly Newsletter
May 24th, 2023
Dear Williamson Families,
This has been such an unforgettable school year! We have had so many very memorable moments with our students here. Thank you for sharing the last 180 school days with us.
We were so happy to bring back some of the things we have been missing since Covid closed so many doors. We had assemblies again, went on field trips, hosted family events with our Williamson PTA, and held awards ceremonies for students. We look forward to adding even more events to our school schedule next year. Thank you for signing up to be a volunteer and helping out at school, at family events, and in the classroom!
I would also like to thank you, our families, for supporting our very exciting Staff Appreciation Week. We had so many donations of gift cards that every employee won at least one gift card. Our Staff appreciation week was so amazing! Everyone was talking about it all week. Each day, every staff member could complete 5 tasks to earn points and small prizes, they could also possibly win an opportunity to randomly select a gift card from our family donations. The challenges that they completed were silly, kind, and thoughtful, and brought so many smiles. They made signs, celebrated with one another, and shared their gratitude with our students and all of the staff. At the end of the week, we raffled the remaining gift cards off to every staff member. Thank you to all of you for your support of our staff, and a BIG thank you to the families whose wildcat paw prints are on the wall in the office.
Looking ahead to next year, we are bringing brand new programs to our school. First, thanks to the hard work of Carla Gaymon-Davis and Kate Hazarian from our school district, Williamson Elementary was selected by the State of California to be a Community School! This is a new program for our district. Some of the things that are coming to us because of this opportunity include recess support for our students three days a week, summer enrichment programs, English as a Second Language classes for adults, partnership with PC Care a counseling service through UC Davis, and professional development for our school staff. We are also hiring a part-time Behavior Specialist and a full-time Community Schools Facilitator.
Something else that we are looking forward to is that every student will be receiving classes in Art, Spanish, and Science over the school year! We can't wait to see what they learn through these new classes!
Our hope is that as we add these new programs and find new ways to support our students, they will move through their years at Williamson getting stronger academically and socially, be more prepared for middle and high school, and then wherever they want to go from there with College or a Career!
I am so honored to be the principal at Williamson. I wish you all a peaceful summer. We will see you all in August!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cottrell
